hbo shows rock. i'm currently addicted to sex and the city, the wire, and six feet under, when it's on. i watched satc tonight... funny as hell! i'm getting to understand the wire better, now that i had a little more background. ah, cable :) i also had some fun today trying to do some workout videos. i feel sorry for whoever lives below me. that's got to be some thumpin when i get goin. but i'm proud to say i successfully made it through week three of working out :) now onto week four... and i'll have made it a month! i got a new video... and it's a trip. it was made in like 1982... and the woman talks like she's on a phone sex hotline the whole time. it's hilarious. i also finally made it all the way through the taebo advanced video... which i have never been able to, since i bought it 4 years ago. woohoo! i'm on a roll. my goal is to be in pretty good shape by the end of summer. they always say it takes 12 weeks (90 days) to see results. so by the end of august, i should be ripped. slightly. ;)

well... the movie was alright. it wasn't scary as much as it was just plain gory. had me flinching and groaning out loud. :) so if you are squeamish, don't go see this movie. ahhh... horror films :) it did piss me off that they played 10 minutes of commercials... before the trailers even started... oh well. i'm glad i got to see it.

so my goal this weekend is to go see the movie 28 days later. even if it's by myself. i've never done that... gone by myself to a movie. i've also never eaten by myself at a restaurant. i've sat down at the occasional coffee shop by myself... and at a bar to have a drink (granted i was waiting for someone... but i showed up early on purpose!) but never at a "table for one" real, sit-down place. i came close... i went up to the place where a friend of mine was working... and she waited on me while i sat by myself. but i don't think that counts because she would come over and talk to me from time to time. i'll definitely have to try it... being out here on my own and all. you'd think that i'd have gotten sick of my apartment by now, and already ventured out. but no :)

so for the past three weeks... i've managed to keep active, and watch what i'm eating. well, for the most part :) the weekends are still my downfall. but if i eat badly, i manage to stay really active that day, even on the weekend. so i'm hoping that balances it out. it's hard, not going to meetings anymore. i used to rely on the weekly weigh-in to keep me in check. for some reason, just knowing i had to step on the scale and have someone else write down what i weighed seemed to motivate me. oh well. i pride myself on my introvertedness (is that a word?) sometimes. i can really get myself motivated... and i seem to do the best when i am doing a program or an activity on my own. if i need to depend on someone else, i tend not to do as well. it helps to have someone nearby to ask advice... or to follow... but when it comes down to the motivation... i tend to look inward to find it. i don't know if that's good or bad...

no trip home for me this weekend. next weekend is the annual family reunion though... so that should be interesting. this year, the reunion has moved from the house that it's been at since before i was born... so that will be a little sad. i think the out-of-state family will be coming in this year... oh wait. that includes me now! a lot of the decormier's live outside of michigan. anywhere from florida, to georgia, to arizona, to washington... but i'm the only illinois-decormier. anyway, that should be a fun 3 day weekend... i LOVE the 4th of july. yay, fireworks and nachos! :)

it's about time! the university of michigan has finally been told their admission system is unconstitutional. this article gives you the latest news. back when i was a freshman at michigan state, i had several friends denied admission, or be put on the waiting list to u of m... even though their grades were outstanding. one of my good friends had a gpa of a 3.8... and was told her admittance would be based on her performance in her last high school semester. so when she got a 4.1 that semester, she figured she had it. wrong. she was put on the waiting list. why was she wait listed, we don't know for sure (obviously) but she wasn't the only one in the state, or the country even, that had this problem. so the suit against the university began... and finally today they reveal the unfairness in determining eligible students. it's about time...

so the official time: 36:20... that's 6 minutes faster than last year! woohoo! not that you can really get your official time from the race... you don't really start running at first, since it's just a huge mob at the beginning. there were over 20,000 people in the race... and we ran around comerica park downtown. i made the mistake of trying to sprint down an entire block... after that, my energy was zapped. i managed to finish though... so now my goal is to make it faster next year! :) the rest of the weekend was spent recovering from the race... my whole body just hurt. sunday morning, my legs felt like jello. but i still had a good time... it made me jump start back into working out. last week i did a fitness tape for 3 days... the week before that i did it for 5. we'll see if i can keep up the trend this week... that will be the 3rd week in a row! the drive this weekend was tough. on friday night, i didn't know that 94 was closed going through detroit... so i got rerouted on a detour that led you straight through downtown. hmmm... little girl looking scared in downtown detroit at midnight on a friday night? yeah, i wasn't a target AT ALL. it also added an extra hour onto my drive... so instead of getting there at 10:30 like i planned, i didn't get in until after midnight. doh. i also need to find a better route on my way home... going around chicago just kills me. for 80 miles around the indiana/illinois border, it's stop and go... and adds at least 45 min every sunday night. bleh. anyway, this weekend is starting to look grim for me to make another trip home. we'll see as it gets closer... but urbana is looking more and more like the place to be this weekend... hmm....

whenever talks of letting someone go come up on the job... i will automatically get nervous. being at crt for a year, when month to month i didn't know if i was going to have a job or not, lends to panic mode when i hear about someone leaving the job. especially today, when i found out someone was leaving hk. i wasn't 100 percent sure it wasn't me... but i was really relieved when it wasn't. i'm sure all you folk in michigan would have done the happy dance, for i would have moved back home, not being able to afford anything else. if that were the case, i'd be choosing a new career. one can only get laid off from a job so many times. i think 3 is pushing it. either way, the person leaving had nothing to do whatsoever with the outlook of the department... my job is still as secure as when i started :) *phew* now i can breathe again... :) but flashbacks from my unemployment days hit me... i hope to god i never have to go through all that again.

i am aware that talking about someone's finances and money is a touchy subject for some people. most people do not tell you how much they make. to them, it is a private matter. others will tell you proudly how much they make, and how they spend it. me... i don't like when people know how much i make. people make assumptions about what you should be able to afford... and then demand to know what you spend your money on when you claim to not have the money for things. most of the time, i am willing to explain my budget to people... but just so other people are aware... not everyone is comfortable doing this. sometimes i don't like "explaining" myself to people. everyone has opinions on how you should save money, or spend it. to me, it's a personal matter :)

well, the social event on friday night was fun. i got to meet a couple more people that i work with... possible potential to go out with if i'm looking for stuff to do... so that's always good :) the drive this weekend was a long one. i had fun at home over the weekend, but it took an extra 45 min because of traffic on the way back. as if six hours wasn't long enough. this weekend i'm looking forward to doing it again... it's the race for the cure 5k run in detroit. it will be the 3rd year in a row that we've gone... should be a good time. i've got to prepare myself this week though... otherwise i'll die come saturday morning. hopefully i won't be hurting too badly...

woohoo! today i had the "new employee luncheon" at work... and i got an official nameplate for my door :) it symbolized the end of my 90 day probation period. we got to meet the owners, and meet a couple other new people. it was fun... and now i'm an official hk employee. :)

yeah, i know. the site was down for a while last night and this morning... and i could not check my email. my host changed the IP of their DNS server... which I also use... so until the DNS of my ISP refreshed, the site and my email were unreachable. then something else funky happened... mail.bradyhathaway.com was my new site... then jjfurniture.com... guess they fixed that problem... don't know what caused it, but it's fixed now... :)

so upon talking about the things going on over the summer in this fine town of champaign-urbana, i was informed by the people that live here, that this is a "hick town". straight from the source. so no matter how much i tried to defend it, there it is. so just a warning to all of you who may visit me... i wasn't lying. i did find out that there is some fun hiking and pretty gardens to visit around town... i actually might do that one day on my own. there's also rumored to be some outdoor concerts throughout the summer on the weekends... i might give those a try too :) but for things to do at night when people visit... it's the bar or bust. i'm scared to think about what i am going to do this winter, when it's too cold to do anything outside. become an alcoholic? i just might... :)

this week will be a semi-busy one at work... and then friday is our social event at a place called 'fat city'. i'm looking forward to it... hopefully i can meet more people from work. it'll at least give me some place new to go, if i like it :) then it's off to michigan for father's day this weekend. let's just hope after fri night, i still have gas money to get there :)

so i found something interesting. there is a site online called meetup.com where you can go to create an "interest group" and schedule a local meeting. it's basically for people to organize a meeting, based on similar interests. so far, i haven't found a group that interests me... although, the fark group would be funny to go to. but this might be a fun thing to do, if i'm bored that day and want to meet a couple of new people... :)

does anyone know if you can cash a check that someone wrote incorrectly? the idiot that is subleasing my apartment in east lansing wrote me a check, but didn't put a 'pay to the order'... rather, he put the amount of the check on that line instead, and left the line below that blank. can i still cash it? i have to try, because i need to pay rent... but damn, what a retard. i almost wonder if he did it on purpose...

i pulled a muscle in my neck in my sleep last night... it hurts like crazy tonight. i finally got everything put away in my file cabinet... and wrote down all my debt. man, it sucks to put that crap on paper. but at least i know exactly how much i owe now, and i can start figuring out how to get it all together. so what else is new...

so it's been almost 3 months since i came out here, and i realized i haven't talked about my job at all. for those of you that don't already know, i love it :) human kinetics (hk) is a publishing company, that publishes books, software, and videos that have to do with physical fitness. i found a good mix of a company big enough to offer good benefits and programs, but small enough so that i am becoming friends with everyone in my department, without feeling too 'corporate'. i get to wear whatever i want to work... which i missed when i worked for jackson national. it was business casual there... no jeans, tennis shoes, etc. that sucked. i am programming sites and apps for our intranet and our external sites, in cold fusion still. i'm starting to learn my way around... i even joined the social committee (i know, i'm a dork). but so far, it's been really good. i am really glad i made the decision to move down here, despite how homesick i get at times. everyone i work with has made an effort to make sure i feel included in the group... so it's made working very fun :) some days i don't know how i get work done... but it all works out :) one of the guys i work with, even has his own blog. yeah, did i find the right place, or what? ;)

man, i'm exhausted... but i'm desperately trying to get the papers/bills/receipts organized that i've been collecting on my floor. i'm half way there... i've gotten them all separated... now i just need to file them away, and get out the overdue bills taken care of. like i said... almost there. :) i'm a pretty organized person... that pile has been driving me insane since i got out here. it's mostly crap left over from before i moved... i didn't take the time to put it away before packing. instead, i just packed the pile :) i also washed my slipcovers for my couch... once those are on, i can show you what my living room looks like, redone. i know you are all anxiously waiting...

so that was a good surprise! even though we didn't do much, i had fun showing danielle and derek around town... we even tried to go to hobby lobby, completely forgetting it's closed on sundays. oops. i'm trying to get decorations of some sort up in my office at work. my 3 month anniversary is coming up (end of my probation) and i have yet to add anything but a lamp to my bare office. everyone else has pictures of their kids or artwork or something up. maybe i should wait until after my review to add stuff. or at least until i have money.. :)

sweet. i found out a friend of mine is coming into chicago for something job-related next weekend, and he invited me to come visit and party in chi-town! woohoo! i was going to have to entertain myself again all weekend, but this is way better! :) the next two weekends, i'll be in michigan... for father's day, and then for the race for the cure. i'm all registered.. now i just have to whip my butt into shape for the 5k. i plan on blowing away my time from the past two years... third year's the charm! :) so i'll be busy for the next couple of weeks... whew!
