well i'm off tomorrow morning to a wedding shower for my friend adam in minnesota. i'm in his wedding in october... so this weekend should be fun. i'm all signed up for my tap class. it starts next week... i go tuesday night for my skills test... to figure out what level i am. i am sort of hoping only to be a two or three... not because i want to suck, but because that means i have something to shoot for. if i am automatically a level four, then it will get boring really fast. that happened to me at the last studio i went to. our song that we choreographed was "seussical". come on. so i dropped that like a bad habit... it just wasn't fun when i wasn't challenged. i also thought i was going to have to buy new shoes... because they require black oxfords... and mine are black and white. studios can be damn picky when they want to be. but i asked if the shoes are ok... and they said no problem. so no shoes for me. i already have two pair... i don't think i need a third. if you've never seen what my tap shoes look like... check em out...

ahhh... the wonderful things you can do with photoshop. i was trying to make some pictures... and i got sidetracked and made this:
all i did was take a picture of my eye... enhance the blue in it... and then make the rest of me black and white. pretty neat! don't know if i'll ever use it... but i like it :)

i finally found something to do! i have been itching to dust off my tap shoes... and the studios in east lansing sucked ass. but i think i found a studio down here that looks promising... so i'm enrolling tomorrow to take tap on either monday or tuesday nights (depending on which level i place into). i think i am good enough for level four... but it's been a year or two since i last took class, so my skills might need to start at level three first. for those of you that don't know, i have been a tap dancer for most of my life... and i really miss it. occasionally i will bust out my shoes and practice... but my neighbors must HATE it when i do that. so i resort to jumping around with no sound :) it's a GREAT workout... so that will help me get my legs back into shape... i can't wait!!! now fitting back into a leotard and tights... THAT should be interesting... :) i wish i had a tap mat to practice on... then i could run the drills more often... and get those wings i have tried FOREVER to master. oh well... hopefully this class will be worth it!

well, it's been a full week... jackie left this afternoon... and now it's really quiet. having all these visitors made me homesick... i had a really fun weekend. this weekend i'm traveling up to minnesota for a wedding shower. should be a nice labor day weekend. oh, and i changed my phone number. so if you don't have it, email me and i will send it to you.

well... after trying 3 different bars... we wound up back at the high dive for the 2nd time in a row. we tried going to 2's... but there was no one there when we drove by at 11... so then we tried to go to lava's... and it was CLOSED. so we turned around and tried to go to c-street... but when we got there, there was still only a handful of people there. we stayed for a drink and decided to head back over to high dive... where we knew we could at least dance some of the time. it was packed... but the music was only half good. argh. so the bar wasn't that great... but we went to the corn festival and had an ok time. the corn was REALLY good... but we didn't stay too long. you can only walk down the street so many times :) nothing really going on tonight... might go hang out by the pool for a bit... other than that, i'm recovering :)

well the past week has been fun... my mom left this morning at 5am. i'm exhausted from going to bed at 1am. but it was fun to have her down here. jackie is on her way... she should get here later tonight. we're planning on going to the urbana sweetcorn festival this weekend. although, i can bet we won't last more than a half hour there. but we have to go, just so we can say we went :) in the meantime, i'm trying to finish up some work that i need to get done... we'll see how that goes!

alright... after volunteering for the humane society, i witnessed the many ridiculous reasons people would surrender their poor animals. "not enough time" "too much money" "don't like dogs" "too many cats". those were the most popular. it drives me crazy. animals should NOT be something you buy spontaneously. but of course people do it all the time. if you don't have time for a dog, or you don't like dogs, WHY would you get a dog to begin with? i got an email today explaining that a woman got her husband a puppy as a present. now it's 9 months later, and they have a hyper dog. but they don't have time for it, and are thinking maybe now they don't even really like dogs. so they want to get rid of it. i was floored. i don't understand people. this poor dog is now probably going to have to go to the shelter... all because his owner's didn't think about it before they got him. so people... THINK before you get a dog, and if it's something you really want. the poor dog shouldn't suffer because YOU suck. don't get me wrong. i know there are valid reasons for needing to surrender your animal... and very often things in life come up where now your pet no longer can be a priority. but more often than not, it's just people being irresponsible. and THAT's what drives me crazy. ok, off my soapbox. :)

stupid cheap ass phone. i pull it out of my purse, and all of a sudden... i have no display. it works ok, as far as calling people goes... but i can't see anything on either the inner or outer display. so i don't have a way to find anyone's phone number :( so if i don't know it by heart, i'm screwed. argh. i have sprint... a samsung a460. damn, cheap ass phone :(

this weekend went pretty well. poor laura got sick... and their drive was hell... but i think it was still pretty fun. even despite the bailey escapade :) my mom flew in last night, and is staying with me til wednesday. then jackie comes down on thursday, and is staying til whenever... probably sunday. woohoo, fun times :) i'm am probably going to gain like 20 lbs though, after eating out every day. not that i'm complaining... ;) matt sent this to me... checker tiles that appear to be very different are actually the same shade. our eyes are so funny, in how they can be deceived!

i almost killed my cat... or so i thought. bailey was sitting on my lap, and bit into the glow bracelet i had on... punctured it, and got the chemicals into his mouth. he then starts spasming, foaming, and drooling uncontrollably. i didn't know if those chemicals were poisonous for cats... so with my hands shaking, i called animal poison control, who said it's ok... the chemicals are non-toxic, but they taste horrible... which was causing him to drool as if he had rabies. so i just had to flush his mouth out, and give him some treats to get rid of the taste. poor guy. i felt so horrible. but he's fine. whew! after that nonsense, i needed a drink! so the 3 of us went out to the bar 'the high dive' and got our groove on :) i miss dancing! despite the occasional bad song... like "billie jean"... NOT a good bar dancing song!! it was alright though. gave us a chance to get more drinks :) now i'm exhausted... need a nap or two ;)

well, i am gonna have quite a few visitors from michigan over the next week and a half... they are escaping the blackout that hit detroit and lansing :) laura and her sister are coming down tonight... and then my mom is coming for a short stay from sun-wed... and then jackie comes thurs!! woohoo!! fun times. at least it won't be boring... i hope... :)

stayed up too late last night... and i'm paying for it. my eyes hurt... my head hurts... i can't keep my eyes open. i've got some diet cherry coke by my side... but it's not working. i need a nap. 2 hours of sleep is NOT enough for me. in other news... it looks like i will have some guests this weekend! if plans fall through for laura and her sister christen to visit, my mom is gonna come spend a couple days with me :) it's also our big company picnic, hosted by yours truly (since i'm on the social committee). fun fun, but now i'd give anything to wrapped up in my bed covers... snuggled with a pillow... and bailey snuggled on his usual spot... my head ;)

i'm so sad. gregory hines died today... he was one of my favorite dancers, and he is the star of one of my FAVORITE movies... "Tap" (with another favorite, savion glover). he was on tour in the 80's... and came to detroit to perform. one of the kids i danced with at my studio got to go on stage with him... and hines danced the "triple buffalo" with him, and autographed his photo for the kid. that photo was framed in our studio forever! :) the man was extremely talented... might have to go get "Tap" as a tribute and watch it tonight... here's to you mr. hines!

what better way to make money... than to sell old clothes on ebay? :) i found my old suit that i only got to wear once! cost me two hundred dollars... but i wasn't too mad, because it's too big to wear now! so i decided to sell it on ebay. know someone who needs a suit? send 'em here:

man... i had a rough night... i woke up in the middle of the night from a crazy nightmare... and now my back is KILLING me. i don't know what i did to it last night... but it HURTS. right in the middle... it feels like i strained it... doing what, i have no clue. thrashing around from the nightmare, probably. argh. today is not starting off good...

there seems to be a big debate going on right now... and i'm lovin it. william linked to the article already, but i thought i'd throw my 2¢ in there :) the argument deals with rss and a new standard called echo/atom/pie. i'm a supporter... i think it is interesting enough to pursue. this does create a lot of new standards to comply by... and a lot of people like to go by the adage "if it's not broke, don't fix it". as my friend andrew knows, i am not one of those people. so check out the roadmap of the development of echo/atom/pie... it's at least worth checking out. :)

i've gotten back into my bad habit of sleeping the weekend away. i laid down at 5pm on fri for a nap, and didn't wake up til saturday morning. then i got up at 7am... ran all my errands (new license, new plates, new bank) and went to sleep at 2pm... then woke up at 9pm... and read some of my books. i have WAY too many dog training/breed specific/puppy books. then i woke up sunday... read some more... and slept for another four hours. so basically, i read and slept the weekend away. it was VERY relaxing, and i managed to finish two books... so i guess it wasn't a complete waste. but i've had about all the alone time i can stand for the week :)

it's official. i got my new license plates and my new license this morning. i had to mount the plates in the front ghetto fabulously, because in michigan, we only require a rear license plate, and there were no holes in the front bumper for me to mount it on. it had the indentations for the plate to go there, but no holes. oh well, it's there now. :) only 5 months later... but hey, this is now officially home. :)
