happy halloween! today at work is going to be pretty fun... i'm on the social committee, and we organized our halloween party. i had thought about dressing up, but i couldn't afford a costume... and the flapper costume i wore 3 years ago i didn't deem work appropriate. so i'm sportin the 'blogger' sweatshirt, and completely geeking it up today. oh wait, that's like any other day ;) i unfortunately have to work at petsmart tonight... and even though i got invited to go out with people after work, it's just not gonna happen. so oh well... the work party will be my fun event for the day. there's always next year!

so due to the kindness of strangers, i was able to renew my domain!!! a HUGE thank you goes out to gregoire... i really appreciate it!! after stressing about bills the past couple of days, that just helped tremendously :) so if you read this site often, thank gregoire too, for not letting it go down! in other news, the state/u of m game is this weekend... and state has a good chance of winning! an old friend of mine sent in this picture that he entered and won a prize for, for entering a pumpkin contest... go state!!

sure enough, as predictable as cats are, cloee came back to where she knew home was, and was sitting outside the front door :) PHEW. that was not fun. someone needs to put some id on that cat... in case she gets out again. collars aren't an option... how much are microchips... looks like a job that calls for google!

my heart goes out to my sister right now... someone left the outside door propped open to her building, and since her front door wasn't shut all the way, her cats got out. they found one of them, but still haven't been able to find cloee. danielle's now home, frantically scouring the apartment complex... and all the areas around it. i'm trying to find a picture of a cat that looks a lot like cloee, since we don't have any recent pics of her, to put on a flyer. but that was my sister's favorite cat... her baby... and so if you could say some prayers for her, that she finds her... i'd appreciate it... i'd go insane if my cats were lost... :(

this looks like it would be fun to play with at work, when someone is annoying me, or i feel like annoying someone else... blast 'em with air!! :)

i'm back after a 9am appointment at the dentist... what should have been a half hour cleaning turned into a 3 hour ordeal, and i still have to go back to finish the paperwork. i was so angry when i got out... they were still trying to charge me $179 dollars for the visit, for just the cleaning, even though my insurance pays 100%. whatever... i refuse to go back there, even though i need a cavity filled. they even tried to convince me that i needed the invisalign braces... i now my teeth aren't perfect, but i sure as hell don't need the braces (and then eventually a retainer, as i was told) for them. you can't even see them, unless i pull down my bottom lip. anyway, i wasted a whole morning, and now have a whole lot of work to do, and now i need to come in early to make up for all the time i lost this morning. argh.

anyway, as a new nfl fan, i've heard a lot about the use of the replays in a game. i can't really comment on their use, since i haven't watched enough games to decide if it really helps with determining plays or not... but it is really interesting to hear the arguments for it... and to me, it will be interesting to hear how people vote on its use in the future... the coach during the denver/baltimore game was VERY adamant about his disgust with them...

in other nfl news, i'm really pissed about the guys i put in my fantasy lineup. i was convinced i was gonna rock this week... but i didn't put in one of the top qb's and the points just sucked. doh. oh well, as cubs fans would say... there's always next year ;)

back to work i go...

the site will be down for a while... i don't have the money to renew the carrie.cc domain... and it expires on halloween. so after that, it will be a week or so before i can do it. sorry, but them's the breaks. damn bills.

continuing on with my addiction, i finally looked up what 'opa!' meant in greek. in greektown in detroit, they used to set the goat cheese on fire, and shout 'opa!' as it lit up. but then in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, they said 'opa!' before every shot. so here someone finally explained it. it's just an expression when you are excited... kind of like our "woohoo!" :)

my name is carrie, and i'm addicted to google. i have become so used to instant results... it's insane. if i have a question about ANYTHING now... i immediately go to google, and look up everything i can about it. whether it's about food, dogs, diseases, my car, rental properties, which pop has the most caffine, where people live... EVERYTHING. if i can't look up an answer... or can't find it within 10 minutes... i get irritated. i was never like this with books... only when all this information came online. and now i get people mad at me... cause if we are having a discussion about anything... and there is a computer nearby... i pop online, and look up facts about the topics we are discussing. then i sound like i'm lecturing... and i just make people mad. why do i do this? i just hate not knowing. i hate saying 'i don't know'. if all i have to do is just go to this one site and type in a question, and BOOM, there's my answer and then some... i'm there!! :) someone says 'did you hear about... " and if i haven't... i'm online. "did you know that...." and i'm researching whatever they just asked/told me about. i am seriously addicted. it's crazy :) so want to know something, or need help researching something? just ask me a question... and i'm sure i'll have 10 sites for you in less than a half hour ;)

if you have been keeping up with the case with microsoft and ie, and embedding objects (like flash) in websites... you will want to read this article, and it will explain how macromedia is changing to coordinate with the changes ms is making to ie.

hilarious. i just spent like a half hour at this page, reading how different people say different things. oh, and to all those crazy people who call pop "soda" or "coke"... this site shows who says what, where. :)

here's the wedding photos from this weekend. they are really crappy, since for some reason, anytime i take a picture with no flash, my camera blurs. grrrr... so i am really disappointed with the quality... but oh well. i'm learning...

here are the eva pictures i got this weekend:

as far as i know, everyone is doing good... with me being in illinois, and their being in las vegas, i doubt i will get to see them anytime soon. but that's why we have digital cameras and email! speaking of pictures, i have a TON from this weekend... later tonight i will post them online. i had a good time dancing the night away, even if it was only me and another bridesmaid on the floor at one point. i was told i was 'entertaining to watch', that it looked like i was having a good time out there... and that i added a lot to their wedding. hmm.... i don't know if that's good or bad ;) i know adam and becky enjoyed themselves, so that's what counts. now for the rest of the week... i will be working a lot of hours. i am scheduled for like 63 hours this week... i work mon, wed, thurs, fri and sat at petsmart... in addition to working mon-fri at hk. *sigh* hopefully i'll make it through... but it's going to be a LONG week. nothing exciting going on this weekend. a friend from work is having a bbq... but i'm scheduled to work during it on sat night... so unless i find someone to cover me, or switch, i might miss out. stupid second job.

ok, i know i haven't gotten much sleep lately... but what is going on? i went to pick up my shoes yesterday, after a surprising phone call from the shoe repair place, proclaiming how easy it was to fix my tap shoes. when i got them in the car, and looked at the shoes, i discovered that they had misunderstood, and put the original taps back on the shoes! aahhh!! so now i have to back again, making this the third time... hopefully the third time is the charm, and someone will get it right this time. argh. i am having a lot of trouble mustering up energy lately. i was late to work last week and monday... and have been trying really hard to get up in the morning to make it here on time. but i'm constantly wore out... and it seems like i always need a nap. i'm worried about the drive tomorrow... i have to work tonight, and leave tomorrow by 9am... so if i wind up not getting enough sleep, it's gonna be a really rough 7 hour drive. i'm already exhausted and it's only 7am. oh well... when you need money, you need money... i'd rather be tired than broke...

since moving to illinois, it has been brought to my attention that we have many, many corn fields nearby. hence my friends back in mi referring to me as 'cornbread' and calling central time 'hick time'... all in good fun. :) but this article talks about dupont, and the plant in decatur, and the cool stuff they are doing with corn these days (it's not just for eating, folks!). so look out, corn may be the 'new cool'... yeah, that'll be the day ;)

drama. i was all excited to go pick up my shoes today, with the new taps put on... but when i pulled them out of the box, i was appalled. the taps were on crooked, and parts of the metal were hanging off the sides of the toes and the heels. i stood there, and asked the guy why the shoes looked so bad. since he wasn't the guy that actually did the repair, he of course couldn't answer any of my questions... only said that he could leave a note for the repair guy to ask why he put the taps on so horribly. i refused to leave my shoes with him, since they obviously had no clue what they were doing. i called my studio, and got a recommendation for a place (which i should have done in the first place) and when i took them to the new place, they too could not believe how ridiculous the job was. but they said they have dealt a lot with tap shoes, and even had taps in the store... so they could make sure that they were on correctly. so now i have to wait another week and a half, til the 24th, before i can use my new shoes :( argh. i was really worried that they had ruined my new shoes... but it looks like everything is ok. drama.

and i thought last week was bad. my football team did HORRIBLE this week... argh. i hate that. and my picks were WAY off. oh well, there's always next week. i just secured my spot in last place though. doh. this week will be a busy one... i work mon, wed, thurs, have class tues, and then will be in minnesota fri, sat, sun. by sunday night, i'm going to be ready to pass out. this weekend is adam's wedding, plus it's sweetest day. i hate that holiday. that, and valentine's day are just not my thing. sunday is a big day for my parents... this year is their 30th wedding anniversary. i don't know how common it is these days to make it that long, but they somehow managed to do it. 30 years... crazy. :) so congrats mom and dad :)

i started to decorate a little... but my limited funds, and the inability to make up my mind on what i want to do leaves my apartment a little bare. but here are a couple pictures of the place... i went and got colored leaves, and floating frames, and framed them above the tv. now i just need a new tv stand... that end table the tv currently sits on is just a crappy one i got at the last minute from someone moving who wanted to get rid of it. but at least it's better than a milk crate :) i also added a mirror above the couch, but since it's on a very large wall, it is dwarfed. it needs something around the sides... a couple things, actually. but like i said, for now, it will do, and it's better than a blank wall :)

work is killing me. i feel like i never have time to do anything. next week, i work mon, wed, and thurs, all 7am-10pm... then fri i drive early morning to minnesota for adam's wedding all weekend. so tomorrow is my only day to get anything done, and i have a baby shower to go to at noon. that will be fun... but man... i need a day... or two... or three... :( in other news, state killed illinois today :) we are doing awesome this year!! after the shower tomorrow, i am ordering dinner in, and watching football. woohoo... it's sunday!! :)

so it's getting better. no crashes at lunch... i spent 45 minutes in austin's sportswear, discussing my shoes with the woman that worked there. i got the ones i wanted, that have a reinforced toe, and even practiced a couple stands in the store with them on, to be sure :) only problem is, they use the teletone ii taps, which have a single screw in the center, to adjust the looseness/sound quality. normally, taps use three screws to hold it in place, and you can adjust each to get a different sound. so i got the teletone taps with the three screws, but now i need to find a place that can swap the taps for me. drama, drama :) but it made me feel better to get the shoes that i wanted. i had originally thought to get the more expensive shoes... but decided my budget couldn't handle a pair of $140 shoes... even though they are sweet shoes. the ones i really want are the capezio k360's... but those suckers are like $250... ouch. maybe when i decide i'm a pro... but til then, the ones i got will work :)

anytime this day wants to get better, i'm all for it. i woke up late, and was forty minutes late for work this morning... after being late yesterday morning :( i don't know why my alarm clock isn't working... then my computer is acting all freaky... i think i should just go home to avoid anything else that could go wrong today.

during lunch, my plan is to run some errands... just PRAY i don't get in a car accident or something. that happened last summer. i went out for lunch, and bam, wound up with 4000 worth of damage to my car. oops. at least i get to get new tap shoes... hopefully i'll be rockin those out on tuesday this week... that would make my day better :) that, and a hug... those always manage to brighten my day...

so here's an update on the tap class, as william reminded me, i haven't mentioned in a while... every tuesday night, i have been having a good time getting my technique down. it's hard when you are used to steps being called one thing, and so when she goes down the line and tells you to do a step, it always takes me a second to figure out what she wants. but once i see what she's talking about, it's a piece of cake :) i've learned the six-count pullback, wings (or as vince likes to call them, big circles), the single and double buck time steps (these i knew from before, but had forgotten the sequences), and a couple of combinations that she has us do to different rhythms. so my legs are always tired after class :) i'm still debating whether or not to do the show in the spring... i think if i did, i might not tell anyone about it, so i won't have to worry about people i know seeing me decked out on stage. i wish she had a technique class during the spring, but as a studio, the only classes that semester are preparing for the recital, and learning routines. oh well.

but i am having trouble with doing the toe stands. especially in the six-count, two of the counts are toes, and my shoes don't have the strength or the flexibility to go into a toe stand. so i might be looking at some new shoes... now THAT would be fun :) as much as i like mine... they just aren't doing what i need them to. and i'm also looking into getting a tap mat to practice my stuff at home. right now, i have to wing it from week to week... and i think i could get even better if i practiced outside of class.

til my body is dust, til my soul is no more, i will love you. til the sun starts to cry, and the moon turns to rust, i will love you. but i need to know, will you stay for all time... forever and a day? then i'll give my heart til the end of all time... forever and a day. til the storms fill my eyes, and we touch, the last time, i will love you.

good song.

so after doing 'ok' last week... i SUCK this week for football picks. doh. and i'm in last place. again. oh well, at least no one expects me to do good... so i'm not diappointing anyone. :) today was nice... i got to sleep in, and now i'm cleaning my apartment... which hasn't been cleaned in FOREVER. with most of my nights and weekends being taken up now... i figured it was now or never. hbo shows are on tonight... and i ordered a pizza for dinner. aaahhh... sundays :)

so even though i had fun, staying out til 1:30 last night was not a good plan. i'm exhausted today! but when i got invited to hang out with people from petsmart, i was not about to say 'no, sorry... i should go hang out with my cats for a while' :) so making a couple friends... things are goin good. i work again tonight, and all day tomorrow (12-7)... then sunday is my day off. woohoo! i don't know yet what i work next week... i need thurs night off for our monthly ecicfug meeting... i haven't missed one yet, and i'm not about to start... but other than that, i will probably be working the week away. it keeps me busy, that's for damn sure. by the time i get home, i am falling into bed, with just enough energy to turn on the alarm clock, and grab some extra blankets. at least i get to sleep in tomorrow... that'll help :)

phew. the job was fun last night. it was 'puppy training' night, so there were like 17 puppies in the front of the store... which wasn't the brightest idea ever, but it means i got to say 'awww!' about a million times :) the job isn't too hard... but you are on your feet the entire time... and i forget how hard that is when you don't wear good shoes. last night i felt it after standing/moving around for 5 and a half hours... my back and legs were super sore this morning. and i was almost late for work, because i over slept. oops. hopefully this won't wear me out, running from one job to another every day... cause i need the dough. like, now. oh, and if you need pet supplies, let me know. i get a 15% discount! woohoo! that's always good when you have two cats. :) alright, off i go again...

and i start the new job today. from 5-9, i'll be sportin the sexy green 'petsmart' tshirt, while i train on the register. should be fun, watching people bring their animals in all night. nothing crazy going on this weekend... just working and relaxing. i've actually started getting in the habit of watching football on sundays. i joined a fantasy league at work, and now i'm addicted :) since my computer is in the other room, i print out a sheet of my picks, and since i don't have access to ALL the games, i watch one game, and keep an eye on the others. it's crazy... i never thought i'd like it... but whatdya know ;) i do wish i had someone there to ask questions, though. so many times i'll hear or see that someone caused a penalty or something, and i have no idea what just happened, or what they did wrong. either a person, or a laptop... or a tv for my room would help :) then i could look it up online, and get a better idea of what is actually going on in the game :) anyway, sundays are good. adam's wedding is coming up here in a little over two weeks, and that will be fun. i reserved a room in minnesota for one. kinda sad bein the only single person in the wedding party. but oh well... i'll get over it. when the cheesy wedding slow songs come on... i'll have to make my way over to the bar ;) thank god for open bars at receptions!! :)
