hmmm... not quite sure yet. this election will be interesting, no doubt. i watched kerry's speech last night... this is the 2nd election that i've been of age to vote in, so i want to make sure i know what i'm doing. i had never really been interested in politics, but the past couple of years have peaked my curiosity, and i've been learning that it's actually quite interesting :) plus i don't like voting when i have no idea what i am voting for. my roommate in college was a member of the msu college republicans... and living in case hall for three years (madison country), you can't escape the debates and all the political discussions. it was fun having all sorts of different views at your disposal, and listening to people argue. although, many times, the discussions were more blaming games than anything else... but when two people got together that really knew their stuff... it was great to listen to :)
anyway, i'm off to michigan tonight, after enjoying some ice cream in the parking lot at work :) it's raining today... hopefully we won't get rained out...

ice cream makes me happy :) we have an ice cream social today at work. it's a perk of working for a company with a 'social committee'. i'm also spoiled, in that tomorrow we are also having more ice cream... my boss decided to call the ice cream company, and just our department is going to have a pow-wow in the parking lot, with some free treats :) woohoo... two days in a row... look out ;) i'm off to michigan tomorrow night. not looking forward to the drive... but the night out should be great on saturday. i'll try to take pictures, but i hate being that girl at the bar... so we'll see...

i never thought i'd really stay in michigan. once i moved up to east lansing for school, and lived there for several years, i realized that my ties to the detroit area where more memory driven... meaning i don't really think i want to live there... but i enjoy going back and remembering the times i had :) now that i've moved to illinois... my thoughts of returning to michigan are not as strong as they used to be... and quite honestly... i don't think michigan is where i will end up. for a while, back when i was in high school... i entertained the idea of living in downtown new york city. and although that idea no longer appeals to me... being close to a large metropolis still does. so i have a feeling i will end up living close to a large city... be it chicago, new york, boston... i think i'm just a suburban girl at heart :) the east coast intrigues me... living near the ocean (or at least within a days drive of it), near to a busy city with a lot of activity... it all looks great, and my type of town. so i may have to visit my friends over at the university of maryland (tim?)... and get their opinion on if it's all it's cracked up to be. i'm not suggesting i will be relocating within the next month... but over the years... 5 maybe 10, i will most likely be looking into relocating to a place that i feel more at home in :) sorry champaign... i don't know if it is quite close enough for my tastes. it's a great place to live, don't get me wrong... but maybe not quite for me... who knows. time will tell :)

man... it's wednesday already! this week is going by fast... so much to get done still. lily had a great time at the park yesterday. lots of fun with a lot of dogs. there are a couple that intimidated her a little... but after a bit, she got her confidence up, and played like they were best friends :) she has her training class tonight... next week is our final week for the second session... then she starts training for her 'canine good citizen' test... she's doin great! i don't ever get tired of training classes... they are a lot of fun :)
nothing else new going on... still looking forward to the trip this weekend... trying to get everything done before i go. i'm not going to know what to do with myself after this wedding... i have no plans for any trips until thanksgiving. i know of a few people that i am hoping to visit though... and jackie and craig may plan a trip down here towards the end of august... but we'll see if that happens. so i'm sure i'll find ways to occupy my time before the holidays start...

i have eight thousand post it notes scattered all over my desk, that keep track of how far i ran, how much i ate, and how much i weigh. but that is of little help to me, when i want to look back and view my progress... sorting through all those notes would be hell. so instead, i threw up another blog. i used one of the pre-existing templates blogger provides, just to get something up there. if i waited until i had time to do it, i'd never finish it. :)
speaking of fitness... i'm taking the day off of running. my knees were sore while i was jogging yesterday... and my calves and shins are starting to ache. i need to stretch more. so tonight looks like a fun night at the dog park... hopefully there will only be nice dogs, so that lily will run her little heart out. i've also taken on a couple of side projects... so i need to sit down and finish those sometime soon... more books, and a couple odd jobs. woohoo for extra money :)

yesterday was a good rest day. i didn't get to watch 'kill bill'... but the other movies were decent. my car is a little more clean, but my vacuum didn't reach to the driveway, and i didn't remember until this morning that i have an extension cord for my christmas lights in the basement. doh. so it didn't get fully vacuumed... but i still emptied it out and wiped everything down. :) if i had been really productive, i could have driven it to a gas station and vacuumed it out there... but oh well... maybe later today.
i did manage to run 3 miles yesterday without a problem. usually i'm dead after 2 and a half... but i made it home yesterday with energy to spare. even lily is getting better at distance... she used to come in and die for a couple hours after our runs... now she sits for about 15 minutes and is then back to her crazy self. might be time to up the distance... i mapped out a 4 mile run... might try to attempt that tonight. the weather has been beautiful running weather... a nice cool upper 60's/lower 70's with a breeze. perfect :) i'm really enjoying this whole running-thing. it's been almost two months since i started... and i don't see myself giving up anytime soon. it's been a wonderful stress reliever... and lily really likes it. she trots happily beside me, and holds her leash, so it often looks like she is the one taking me for a walk ;) sometimes she'll break out into a full out run... and it takes all i have to keep up with her. but it's always for just a short spurt, and then we're back to the slow jogging/happy trot :) man, i'm glad to have a dog ;)
the rest of the week is a normal week... training on wednesday night... and the rest is work work work. i'm off to michigan this weekend, and really looking forward to it! less than three weeks to the wedding!

good day today. took lily up to the dog park for two hours... she had a blast :) then came home and cleaned house... man, does it feel good to have everything done! tomorrow is clean out the car day... i've got bits and pieces from all my thousands of trips floating about... plus lily's hair is everywhere. luckily i managed to contain most of it to her blanket :) a productive weekend, even if i didn't get out much :)
anyway, next weekend is car trip 895 for this summer, but it should be a fun one. we're all heading out for the bachelor/bachelorette party. then i may have a lab-related bbq on sunday... but that's still up in the air. we'll see how hungover i am ;) so it will be a good time, all around. hopefully i'll also get to meet up with michael, who will be in town for his grandmother's funeral... sad reason to be in town, but it would be fun to catch up with him :)
ok, back to watching 'barbershop 2'. i rented a bunch of dvd's this weekend. 'the butterfly effect' was a good movie... i'm surprised no one i know recommended it. i've got 'kill bill' and 'something's gotta give' set for tomorrow... that, and six feet under. i love that show. last week's was messed up... had me a little freaked out. but hey, welcome to hbo :)

so far i'm having a great friday. i'm getting a ton done at work... it's a beautiful day outside... and i have a nice weekend ahead of me with NO TRAVELING :) it will be so nice to finally be able to get some stuff done around my house that i've been putting off. i did laundry last night, so tonight is lawn mowing night. i've also been keeping up with my running... i can now comfortably run two miles without stopping. it still takes me a little under 20 minutes to run it... so i guess i'm not really running as much as i am just jogging... but hey, it's more active than i've been in a while. 5 times a week, for 20 minutes at least... not bad! plus it wears lily out, so she's not such a crazy dog each night :) might take her over to brett's house in the country... he has a couple of dogs that would love a new playmate... plus he has a new puppy! so that should be a fun time. man it feels good to check things off my todo list :)

so i figured out what the hell was waking me up in the middle of the night. my cats. i was repeatedly attacked last night... one eating my hair, and the other trying to suffocate me by wrapping around my face. they used to just be content with sleeping on my bed, near to me... but i have a feeling they have been neglected ever since lily came home... and are now crazy attention seekers. oops. looks like i'll have to start closing the bedroom door at night to keep them out... *sigh*... poor cats...

well poor lily is teething... so she is missing teeth, has sore and bleeding gums... and is mouthing everything. so in an effort to help the poor girl out, i put a bunch of ice cubes in a sock and froze it... she loved it! so i took some photos of her playing with it... she's now 44 lbs at just over 5 months :) my little girl is no longer so little!

well this weekend was fun. went to marc and trish's wedding on saturday... and although the day started out clear, by the time the ceremony started, it had begun to rain... which is never good for an outside wedding. but the bride and groom were troopers, and laughed through the ceremony :) marc pulled out his guitar for one part, and sang to trish with the accompaniment of the flower "fairies"... about 8 little girls :) it was great. he pulled it out again at the reception, and sang the song he wrote for trish... it was beautiful. i'm glad i had my camera with me... it takes videos, so i was able to capture the majority of both performances. i'll post them on here soon, along with all the photos i took.
i also saw 'i, robot' this weekend... and although it's not my favorite movie in the world... it was alright... i can justify spending money to see it in the theater :)
so all in all, it was a good weekend. i stayed a day longer in michigan, so today feels like a monday to me... but at least it made my week shorter. i'm still sniffing... i got sick over the weekend... but a long night's sleep on sunday and again last night i think is helping to clear that right up. nothing major planned for this week... training class tomorrow, and mowing the lawn on thursday. i'm actually not driving this weekend, so it will be the first weekend in a month that i'm in town. crazy. good time to clean the house! next weekend is jackie's bachelorette party... then i have another free weekend... then she gets married. time is flyin by...

i finally saw the michigan quarter today... and although i was rooting for the design that featured the lakes, the car, and the bridge, the one that wound up winning out was just the design with the great lakes. this article by the lansing state journal, explains why it won out... and i do agree... our shape definitely is distinctive. ask anyone in michigan where their city is located, and they'll throw up their left hand and point to their location :) and i'm off to the big mitten tonight, as it is... wedding tomorrow, and catching up with friends on sunday. woohoo... should be a fun weekend!

thanks everyone for all the emails. just so no one is freaking out... i'm not the one with the mental illness. i'm the one who is trying to figure out how to support the ones that are close to me that have been diagnosed with them. when someone in a family or close to them is diagnosed, it affects everyone around them... and most of the time i feel helpless as to what the right thing to do is. so no worries... i'm ok... just need some advice ;)

is it overrated? some people love it, some people hate it. does it really help? or does it only really help those people that need to vent about the problems and successes in their life? it's a personal subject to me... mental illness is rampant in my close friends and family members... several have been hospitalized... it is a very scary and real thing to me. everyone wishes they could help... but unlike a physical deformity, mental illness is not fully understood... both by the people that have it, and the people that attempt to treat it. everyone is different in how they react to mental disease... so how you can find a general way to treat them is beyond me. but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. both for the people afflicted, and for those that want to help them.
i have a lot of feelings i wish i could discuss with someone... but i don't necessarily know if therapy is the best route. support groups might work better... i'd like to know how other people deal with issues they have. more and more, i feel myself getting angry, and resentful... but it is difficult talking with people who are involved in the situation. an outsider's point of view would help me... i need someone who can take a step back... and point out the obvious. i don't necessarily need someone to tell me what to do... maybe just opinions about the situations.
i'm always surprised to find out how many people deal with some sort of mental illness. whether it's panic attacks, depression, obsessive-compulsiveness, or even just drug dependencies... it's so common with the individuals i know. i don't know if it is just my circle of influence or what... but it doesn't make it any easier. i wish there was some magic book telling me the right thing to say in any given situation... or the right thing to do... but i always wind up feeling helpless, and that i've said the wrong thing. it terrifies me sometimes to think of having kids... and all the ways you influence their lives. does everyone go through the paranoia that you will mess up your children's lives? i guess just knowing you tried not to... that you did what you thought was in their best interest... i guess that's about all you can do.
alright, enough of the depressing junk... today is thursday... tomorrow is friday... and i can't wait. i'm looking forward to the weekend... hope it's even better than the last ;)

yesterday we had quite the weather watch... right around 4pm, there were major clouds rotating above my work building... so naturally, we were all standing around outside watching them spin all around and down ;) as soon as i uttered the words 'shouldn't the sirens be going off by now?', they started. they were then followed by my boss running outside and telling us all to get back into the building... while everyone else was huddled in the hallways, we had been standing around outside pointing up at the skies. yeah... we're smart ;) no tornados touched down near us... but it was the coolest cloud movements i've ever seen! i really wish i'd had a camera.
in other news... today is my dad's birthday... so happy birthday dad!! hope you have a great day today!
i'm also excited because when i went to the theater to see farenheit, there was a preview for a movie that is coming out around christmas this year... the phantom of the opera!! that is one of my favorite musicals of all time... i've only seen it twice live... but both times it was awesome! i really REALLY hope that the movie turns out well... i know the whole freakin thing by heart :) and yet it still manages to make me tear... woohoo for dramatic musicals :)

it's amazing how things change when you get enough sleep. my temper was so short yesterday... if you didn't talk to me, it was probably for the better ;) so now i have this weekend to look forward to... going to a wedding for one of my old roommates from college, who is then moving out to pheonix at the end of the month. everyone is jumping ship and moving out of michigan... guess i can't talk ;) i can't believe july is already half over. jeez. turns out i won't have a month to be in champaign after this wedding... i forgot about jackie's bachelorette party! that's going to be two weeks from saturday... so back to michigan i go. at least i get one weekend as a break. we're thinking of renting a party bus... look out! ;) a week from friday, the social committee at work (which i am a former member of) is hosting a happy hour... should be interesting. alright... work is calling... so much to do...

oy... it's gonna be a crappy day, i can already tell. i'm freakin exhausted. this weekend was really fun... and now i'm homesick. i also decided to stay longer yesterday, and didn't leave until after 7pm... so i wound up fighting to stay awake on the road... swerved a couple times, and pulled off onto an exit for a short nap when i finally couldn't take it anymore. i got in about 12:30... and then overslept this morning, making me late to work. doh. and i'm already taking it out on coworkers... oops. didn't mean to do that. gonna have to figure out a way to snap out of the 'mondays'... and if anyone says that to me today, they're gonna get slapped ;)
in other news, the pup is doing great... she's back to her obnoxious puppy self :) i'm broke, but she's healthy and happy, so i'm happy :) and now back to the daily grind...

well, my sister went nuts and redid her room (which looks very nice by the way)... so i took a look around, and decided it was time for a change. so i got rid of my blue comforter... and got a down comforter for my own bed instead. and rather than a blue cover, i decided to go with a pale green. it's very nice... and i now understand the joys of down comforters!! now all i need is a featherbed... and i'll be in heaven... :) my cats seem to love the fluffiness as well... poof keeps jumping off the pillows and burying herself in the fluffiness... it's pretty freakin cute.
anyway, i'll post pictures sometime... for now, it's off to michigan... i'll take some photos this weekend of the shower... reggae anyone? ;)

well the little girl is ok... she's home, everything checked out ok with the xrays... all 500 dollars worth of them. ouch. she's now on antibiotics, and she should be feeling better in no time. i'm glad it was nothing serious... she really had me worried. so it looks like we're off to michigan... should be a fun time with craig and jackie... they made it back safe and sound. so it's driving time tomorrow... but thank goodness it's the weekend!

well, so far so good. no obstructions. i was worried she had swallowed a chicken bone... but nope. bloodwork is normal. no fever. the only thing that is abnormal is that she has a urinary tract infection... and it's recurring... so tomorrow she goes for xrays to see if it's something in her anatomy that is causing it. so it's her infection that is causing her other symptoms... poor girl. she just gets rest tonight... but i'm just glad she's home :)

well something serious is wrong with lily. she had puked all over her crate... and was acting really lethargic... and the vet found blood in her urine. so she's at the vet's right now, while they run some tests on her, and are calling me back once they know anything. i'm beside myself... i don't know if i should be freaking out or not... but regardless... i'm really, really worried about her...

my poor puppy... she is sick again. this time, since it's now a recurring problem, they want to do x-rays, to figure out why she keeps having problems... so she goes in tomorrow morning, bright and early. meanwhile she's whimpering a lot... and seems to just be really uncomfortable... poor girl. i wish she could tell me what was wrong. i wish there was something i could do to make her feel better tonight. i might forego the training class this evening... depends on how she is doing. if she's going to cry the whole class, it will be useless for us to be there... but we'll see... *sigh* hopefully it's nothing serious, and we can make her better asap!

so to keep up with the running... i attempted to run in between downpours tonight, with lily... i got about 5 minutes outside, and it just opened up and let go. i had to turn around and run back... and by the time we got back, i felt like i had jumped in a pool... lily and i were both soaked from head to toe. doh. so i only got 15 minutes in... better luck tomorrow...

well the fourth was fun... i hung out with the fam all weekend. went with the parents on sunday to see farenheit 9/11... and i liked it... it was entertaining... but i agree that i think you have to take everything michael moore says with a grain of salt. it was funny though... and it's not often i hear people applauding at the end of a film :)
lily also was a champ... we've been learning a new trick "bang!"... where i shoot her, and she rolls over and plays dead. it's pretty cute, and was a hit with the family members :) she was very well behaved all day saturday... i was pretty proud of her :) we'll see how she does this weekend. but the turnout for the reunion was better than expected! much more people, and people i had not seen in a while all turned out for it... it was a great time :)
jackie and craig arrive tomorrow! their wedding shower is this sunday, and her aunt that helped me bring lily home is in town for it... and so lily will be accompanying me to the shower. hopefully she is as good this weekend as she was for everyone on saturday. should make for an interesting time :) i am crossing my fingers that nothing else goes wrong in jamaica, and that they actually make it in on time this week...
as for this week... nothing else (other than craig's homecoming) is going on... we may have our monthly ecicfug meeting this thursday... but i doubt it. then friday, it's back up to michigan i go... i am officially over 60,000 miles on my poor car... i clocked it, and it's about 370 miles one way, for me to drive to the detroit area. so 740 miles in a weekend... count all those weekends in michigan... phew... i've driven a TON in the past year. doh. let's hope it lasts for a lot longer :)

there's a serial tire slasher on the loose at work... in the past two days, three people have gotten their tires slashed... as well as people over in the strip mall near to work (conveniently where i was walking to barnes and noble this week). doh. i need to drive tonight... please don't make me buy new tires... grrr...

again with the 2am nonsense. i'm seriously wondering what is going on to wake me up, consistently. and it's not like i just roll over, and vaguely realize that it's not morning. i wake up in a panic, and then turn around and realize it's only 2am, and i don't have to be up for another 3 and a half hours. grrrr... i need sleep!
in other news, if you are into useless crap, this will peak your curiosity. a light up toilet seat. what in god's name would you need that for? yeah, i don't know.
and i have been faithful this week... i walked two miles on monday, but i ran the same two miles tues, wed, and thurs. i'm hoping to do it again tonight, before i take off in the car, and again tomorrow, before the family reunion, and the buffet of nachos ;) i'm really trying to keep with running... there was one summer i did it consistently for four months... and by the time college started back up in august, i was ripped! it was great! i no longer have that metabolism... but i'm hoping if i can still do it for the next two months, it will help. i can now run the two miles without dying... so there's improvement ;) i'm also sportin' shorts for the first time this summer, at work. yes, we are allowed to wear shorts. and sandals. look out ;) i always get yelled at for wearing pants and long sleeves all summer... so although i'm wearin shorts... i couldn't give up the sleeves :) baby steps... not to mention, it's like 40 degrees in my office. i couldn't feel my fingers the other day... i had to go outside to warm up :( oh well... c'est la vie.

ok. i love this stupid drink. i was addicted to the glass bottles of frappacinos that starbucks sells already... and then i made the mistake of going to barnes and noble, and realizing that there is a frappacino light drink... and now i'm hopelessly addicted. they are way better ice blended in a cafe, than in the glass bottles... i think starbucks adds crack to them, they're that good. taco bell and doritos are also others on my suspect list of drug-adding food companies... i seriously will never live without them. and now frappacinos... *sigh*... i'm in summer heaven... :)

and it's july already. two more weeks, and marc gets married. three weekends of driving into michigan. by the 24th, i'll be ready for a break from my car. and i actually do get a break... a whole month in champaign! i don't have any plans until jackie's wedding on the 14th of august. crazy. she, by the way, is stuck in jamaica now until wednesday... they forgot to mention that the embassy is closed on the 5th. apparently even though it is the jamaican embassy, they are closed on all u.s., english, and canadian holidays. yeah, i don't get it either :) so rather than a week, she will have been down there for 12 days. oops.
tomorrow i make the break for michigan... and the yearly family reunion. as long as there are nachos, i'm ready ;) it's like a staple... a big thing of cheese that is kept hot all day, and a giant bag of tortillas... and i'm set :) oh, and seeing family will be fun, too ;)
and dammit, what do you know... last night 2:30am... are you awake? ;)
