one of the great things about the company that i currently work for, that i will miss greatly, is that we have many company events, and the people i work with are great, so they really make it fun. we had our annual halloween party today, and my department dressed up as the 'blue man group' :) we even had pvc pipes that brett made into an 'h' and a 'k'... and we walked around in character to the pipe music in the background. it was great! we got a huge laugh and round of applause... but we couldn't compete with guys dressed as cheerleaders doing cartwheels and rehearsed cheers. but even though we didn't win, we all had a great time! i will really miss this part of being in champaign... and i will miss my friends that i have made. *sigh* saying goodbye sucks. a lot.
but i am looking forward to passing out halloween candy sunday night. i'm all stocked, and i'm sure lily will like all the visitors! :) i just hope i don't run out too fast!

i think i made the world's shortest trip to michigan. i was there i think a total of three hours. but in those three hours, i found my new car! having done my research beforehand, with the help of my dad, we went to the dealer that had my first choice on a car, and what do you know, not only did they still have it, but it was marked down another $600 from what i saw online! woohoo! so i got a sweet deal on a black 2003 focus se. i'll take photos tomorrow or this weekend sometime. it drove great all the way down here... and in addition to everything my other focus had, this one has a seat height adjuster (a big plus for shorty me), an mp3 player/cd player, and an extended full warranty to 75,000 miles :) so i'm pretty happy with my decision. one less thing to worry about... now back to the move...

this is the last trip i'll be making from michigan to illinois... that's odd to think about. i'm traveling all day tomorrow, and winding up with a new car :) i'll try to take some photos this weekend... so much to do still...
and wouldn't you know, something had to go wrong with lily. i was waiting for that one, with my current streak of luck. when she was boarded at her vet's last weekend, they noticed a couple baby teeth had not fallen out yet. and since she's past that stage, they now need to be extracted, otherwise it will cause her pain and could cause deformities or infections. *sigh* so the poor girl goes in tonight and i get to pick her up friday so they can pull them out. so thank god, it's nothing serious... she'll just get a general anesthesia... but i'm sure she'll be no picnic this weekend :( poor girl...
but hey, i get a new car! ;)

found a couple of cars to visit last night, so i made plans with my dad this morning. he has thursday off, so i'm flying into detroit from chicago... after dropping off the rental car and taking a shuttle up to the airport, checking out cars thurs night, picking one, and then driving it back down to champaign to be at work on friday morning. *sigh* lots of traveling... and i feel like all i have been doing is planning and running around. but i'll have a new car thursday night, so at least that will get taken care of. then i have to file all the paperwork to get reimbursed for the rental car, and my new car's taxes, etc... have to get that in order before i move. then i have to get to the secretary of state this weekend to get my new registration all sorted out... AND still find time to start packing/planning my move. i have a bajillion and one phone calls still to make... time is running out, and i have stuff that i needed to get done like yesterday. only 16 days left til my last day... it's coming up quick!

back from dc, and still recovering. i just had the best weekend! i met up with friends on friday night, and they introduced to me to ethiopian cuisine. it was fantastic! we stayed there for a while, and then proceeded to hang out in the adams-morgan area of dc... at one point we went to a place that played live latin music. so a little wine and some bad salsa dancing later, we were out and about on the street and stopped for some jumbo slices of pizza. good times.
the next morning was an early one for me... but i found my way out to arlington, to begin viewing apartments. i went to the one i was hoping to lease... and it is great! the dog park on the map looks farther away than it really is... it's really less than a 5 minute walk from my doorstep! so it's almost like having a fenced in yard for lily to go crazy in... with friends to play with! she's gonna love it. plus the neighborhood is a good one... so i'll be good with walking around with her. it was much better than i had expected it to be. so having finished early with that, i headed out to downtown, and took it upon myself to go on my own short tour of the memorials. i visited the washington monument, the world war ii memorial, the lincoln, fdr, and jefferson memorial, and hung out on the mall. it was a gorgeous day to be walking around outside :) what a great afternoon. then i met up with my friends again, and since i had to be up at 4:30am to catch my flight home, i just hung out and watched college football and the world series games and enjoyed some good beverages. an easier night, but it was great. i didn't get to bed til past 2... so the drive home was rough, but i can't wait to be moving out there.
so the lease is set, move in day is now officially the 17th... i've got three and a half weeks to plan and pack. also have to get the new car this week, so tonight and tomorrow will be spent doing some heavy research finding my perfect vehicle. i'm still pretty set on a focus... gonna try for the 2003, and then maybe in two or three years spring for a brand new car. so my new car won't be entirely "new"... but it'll be new to me ;) and still better than my old one. i'll be sure to take photos once i drive it home... vroom vroom, dc here i come! ;)

well, things are starting to get taken care of... i cleaned out the focus today. it was sad... sayin goodbye to my first car :( it was a good car, and i had planned on owning it for quite a while... but now it's gone, no more egg shaped car. but i also got the check from my insurance company, so i'm all set to purchase my new vehicle :) now all i need is the time to do it! i need to clone myself a couple times... one to do apartment searching, one to hire movers, pack, and get the animals ready, one to research new and used cars and swing up to michigan to buy it, and one to work at my job for me in the meantime. *sigh* good thing i'm organized... there is so much paperwork and follow ups that i need to do, if i don't keep it all straight and in order, i could royally screw things up.
but so far today is looking up. i have a car to drive myself around in, so that i can get ready for my trip tomorrow. a LOT to do still... especially over the next week. but once i have the new car... once i have my apartment signed... and once i have everything scheduled... it will be just a matter of me moving, and i'll be good to go! phew... thanksgiving weekend is the weekend after i move... that will be a welcome vacation, relaxing, eating a lot of food with my family :) longer drive now... but well worth it :)

what a week. what. a. week. got another call today... my car is no longer considered fixable... so guess who has to buy a new car? i guess the good side is that i will be driving around a new car... but for cryin out loud... did i really need to add buying a car to the list of things to do?? my stomach will never be the same... if i ever get to d.c... i'm gonna need a freakin vacation! either that or an operation to remove the ulcer from all the freakin stress.
phew. good news is, my insurance is handling everything, i don't have to pay my deductible, and i got qualified for a new car loan. so money-wise, i should be fine with the move. plus getting a new car asap means i don't have to rent one for the next two weeks, which also helps. so i'm seeing the silver lining... at least... i hope it is. i'm scared to wake up tomorrow, the way this week has been going...

things are beginning to fall in place. i will be picking up a rental car tomorrow, and will be boarding a plane friday afternoon, bound for dc. my friends and i are going out to eat, and then hitting up the downtown area for some fun friday night, and then i'm bouncing around town all day saturday sight-seeing and apartment hunting. not sure what the plans are yet for saturday night... but i'm really looking forward to catching up with folks i haven't seen in a while. granted, i did just see dave at marc's wedding this summer... but he was busy with family, so i didn't really get a chance to chat with him. he even managed to convince steph to come out with us... and i haven't seen her in ages! i can't wait! it will be a great time... and it will definitely give me some much needed laughter and good times. *sigh* finally... good news :)

can stress cause symptoms that feel like food poisoning? i've been up since 2am with waves of naseau and bad stomach cramps. it comes and goes... but man, when it comes, i feel like i'm about to be really sick. so either the frozen steak i ate monday night wasn't cooked all the way (it's a little late for that really to be the cause)... or i'm making myself sick from stressing about all the stuff going on. either way, i feel like absolute shit today. woohoo. bring it on baby... one more thing to make my week the best ever.
so i decided to rent a car for the next two weeks. there is a lot i need to get done before i move... take the animals to the vet, get packing materials, cleaning materials, donate/throw out things i don't want to move, drive to the airport, etc... it will be a huge stress relief to have my own mode of transportation. plus, i still go home during the day to let lily out, so it would not be feasible for me to expect a ride to and from work, in addition to someone taking me during lunch to let her out :( so the initial 300 dollars will be a rough deal... but i get reimbursed, so it's only temporary that i'm out the money. i also decided to let my insurance company deal with the assholes at the post office. which means i'm also going to have to fork over my $500 deductible... but that will also get reimbursed in time... but meanwhile, i'm out $800 bucks that i needed for moving costs. *sigh*
is this a sign, or what...

what a mess. the usps is being a pain in the ass. now i'm really worried about getting my car back in time for my move to dc in four weeks, in addition to not being able to get a rental car for this weekend. the guy i spoke with was such an asshole, i felt like hiring a lawyer just so i didn't have to deal with him. *sigh* why am i getting all this shit, when it wasn't even my fault? i was just driving myself home from work... and blam... someone decides they want to run a stop sign. argh. so with the help of julie, she found that there appears to be a shuttle van that i can take to the airport friday morning, which would wind up cheaper than the rental car, if i decide i want to go that route. decisions, decisions. regardless, i'll be in dc this weekend, so that's some good news. but until an hour ago, i thought for sure i'd have to cancel that trip, too. it's not been a great day. i'm trying to stay positive... and not have this turn into the week from hell... but man... when it rains... it pours. i'm starting to really hate the rain...

well, after a supremely shitty day yesterday... i'm ready for some good news today. anyone have any? funny enough, my horoscope this morning (yes, i'm a dork, and even though i don't believe it, some spam still entertains me) says "take care that a little bad luck doesn't throw you into a funk. remain positive; you should be able to reverse any negative trend."
so if anything, the horoscope writing people give me hope ;) cross your fingers i can get a rental car today, so that i can still keep my plans on meeting my friends this weekend and partying it up in dc! i'll need a break after all this nonsense!
and thanks for all the voices of concern! it was nice to wake up to many emails wishing me well :) makes me feel appreciated when i need it :)

well, today started out bad... and proceeded to get worse. i'm driving home on a cold, rainy day... when a mail truck decides he doesn't want to stop for the stop sign crossing me... causing me to crash right into him (i didn't have a stop sign)... thus totalling my car. my airbags went off, and i was wearing my seatbelt... so thankfully, i was not harmed... and thankfully, the driver of the mail truck was not injured either. but my car is not drivable, and had to be towed to a body shop. :( so now it's up in the air about my plans for this weekend... and for the next couple of weeks. *sigh* as if i didn't have enough crap to worry about. at least it wasn't my fault this time... but still sucks not having a vehicle. argh...

i finally made some plans... i'll be heading out to dc this weekend. i made appointments to view places all day saturday... so i'll be flyin out friday night, and flying back early sunday morning. not a long time, but enough for me to make sure the places i found were reasonable. it's good to have friends in the area who have offered up their couches for me to crash on... should be a good time meeting up with all of them :) it also gives me more time once i get back to make the plans i need to move, switch utilities, reserve a truck, etc. still a lot to do, but having somewhere finalized to live will help. right now, it's still speculation... but i'm getting closer! 30 days and it's moving day!
other than that, nothing else big going on. as if moving weren't enough ;)

so i'm out walking lily since it was gorgeous outside today... and out of nowhere, a woman starts screaming at me to 'watch your dog!!' i turn around, and her two border collies are charging lily and i. lily starts getting attacked, and is yelping like crazy... i didn't know what to do! the woman ran over and grabbed one of her dogs... thankfully that made the other one stop as well. she apologized, and made sure lily was ok... which she was. scared and dirty, but fine. thank goodness! she kept apologizing, saying her dogs are really aggressive, and they're usually on leash... but man... good thing i wasn't a little kid or something... and good thing lily wasn't hurt! she would have had some serious trouble. phew. but the rest of the walk was great... i need to take some updated photos of her now that she's 8 months old (tomorrow). she's now over 60lbs... and still as cute as ever :)
and happy birthday william! hope you have a great day today!

well, today is msu's homecoming... i'm bummed i'm not there to celebrate. we're killin minnesota, so it would have been a fun game to go to... oh well. i also am not able to watch it on tv... damn illinois channels... espn is broadcasting the ohio/toledo game down here rather than msu. *sigh*
a month from today is moving day... i now have a week from my last day to pack/clean instead of a day... so that works out well :) 11/16 is the day i'll be packing it up... lots to do before then... need to plan a trip next weekend to go out to d.c. to sign leases/view apartments. even though i'm holding a place... i want to make sure it's all it's cracked up to be. looking forward to meeting up with my friends... i'm thinking about postponing it to the following weekend and celebrating halloween out there. that'd be a great time i'm sure! :) but we'll see... the longer i wait to find a place... the more stressful it is for me to throw everything together. so i'd like to get it over with... so i may just chill out here and hand out candy to the kids in my neighborhood... we'll see... :)

so i'm getting more excited... my ideal place came through for me, and has an open apartment! so i am living close to work, near to a dog park, in my price range, and in a nice neighborhood :)
i also randomly looked up tap classes... HOLY COW! they have a dc metro tap festival every year!!! there are a bajillion schools in the area, and a couple of really good tap ones!! i'm REALLY excited about that... because that means there are a lot of adults my age that are still into dancing, and will be at my level! no more classes with the 55 year old moms or the 12 year olds!! not that they weren't good... but i will be MUCH more comfortable with people my own age that are still as into tap as i am!! dc is a great tap city... i can't WAIT... studios there even offer classes you can drop in on... so i can pay class per class at first, just to see if i like it, and where i'd fit in. i thought i'd have to give it up forever... WOOHOO! :)
so as things get settled... i'm getting more excited. finding a place decreased the stress a little... now i just need to rent a moving truck and figure out the best way to transport me, my stuff, my car, two cats, and lily 11 and a half hours away. i'll probably stay overnight somewhere... drive 6 hours, sleep/let lily run, then drive the next 5-6 hours... but i'll talk it over with my vet and see if it would be less stressful to just get it all over with in a day. i can drive 12 hours straight... but i'd like to cause my animals the least amount of stress possible!

on a positive note... for the record, i would just like to comment on much i love the morning coffee. we've had french vanilla for the past three days... it's wonderful :) might have to invest in a coffee maker when i get settled in. the coffee at my new job was not my favorite when i visited... so it'd be worth it to me to brew my own in the morning and bring it with me on my morning commute. gotta start the day off right... mmmm... ;)

man, apartment hunting is hard. finding something convenient to the metro is easy... but finding one that allows big dogs has been impossible. i even started trying to find a roommate, or subleasing from someone... but so far, none of the places that would allow lily are unfurnished... so i'd have to store all my stuff and use someone else's random furniture for a while... and they are all pretty far from my job. pricewise, they are decent... but i don't want to be super unhappy and miserable just to save money. although, being unhappy with where i live for a couple months might be ok... then i could wait until the apartment i described yesterday became available. *sigh* i hate this part. even the actual moving doesn't suck this bad... it's hard enough worrying about succeeding at my job... now i have to worry about my living space too... argh...

oh man. one open apartment, but someone has it on hold until 4pm today to view it. if they don't show up, he will call me and i can have it. think good, good thoughts... pray... do a happy dance... something to the effect that helps me get this place!!! otherwise, i may opt to try and rent a 2 bedroom... and transfer when the 1 bedroom becomes available. very pricey to do it that way though... AND i'd have to move twice. so please please please please let this person walk away from this apartment! it's PERFECT...

for those of you interested, i will be working for a software company called pantheon software, located in arlington, va. it's a lot like a company i used to work for, and i loved that job. so i'm hoping i am equally as happy with this new place... and also find my way around in d.c. without too much of a problem :) my landlord here in urbana rocks, and is letting me out of my lease early... so no double rent for me! thank god... i was really worried about how i was going to swing paying for two apartments, while living in a ridiculously expensive city like d.c. i'm in the midst of trying to find a great place to live, both for me and for lily... and i think i found one! i am calling today to discuss details... but if it's as good as i think it is, it would be within 15 min of work, is dog friendly, in a nice neighborhood (or so the apartment ratings say), and is less than a block from a park, which also has a dog area in it :) woohoo! and it's in my price range. so if you pray, please pray that this place is as good as it sounds so far! that would ROCK :) i'll be moving in exactly one month from yesterday... so now the madness begins... as if i wasn't stressed before...

so there's the big news. i had been keeping quiet about it, since it kept going back and forth on whether or not i was going to take it. it's not only a new job, but it's in a new state. starting in november, i will now be living in washington d.c.! so it's a BIG move for me... but i am really excited about it. i had written a while back that i just wasn't happy in champaign... couldn't find my "niche" so to speak. well, with encouragement of my friends out there, i started applying to east coast jobs... and the d.c. area is in demand for some c.f. developers. so after a couple months of searching/interviewing... i finally found a company i really like, and their offer matched what i was looking for. it will be a great opportunity for me, i think... or i hope, rather. as excited as i am, i'm also incredibly nervous and full of doubts. there is always the fear of failure looming...
but wish me luck that everything goes smoothly! so much to do, plan, etc... *sigh* but hopefully it's for the best!

i must have been exhausted all week... i'm sure making up for it this weekend! it feels GREAT to take a nap from 3-5... and although i'm still up at the crack of down feeding the animals (before they cause a ruckus) i get to go back to bed and enjoy more sleep... aaah... state won yesterday, woohoo spartans! now it's time for some pro football today... i've got my picks and my team ready. i lost my first game last weekend in our fantasy league... hopefully that doesn't start a downward trend. nothing else to report, just yet. soon. maybe ;)

man, i think my house has some sort of energy problem... in that once i get home from work i have no motivation or energy to do anything! i make myself get up and take lily out for a walk for an hour, and we play in the yard... poor thing has been dying to get out all day. but man... it takes all i have to get my butt moving. good thing she's persistant ;) i swear i'd weigh about 50 lbs more if i didn't have her to make me get off the couch :) not sure if it's what i'm eating, or if i'm just not sleeping enough... blah... whatever it is, it's rough. no plans this weekend... which is good, because there is work i need to catch up on so that i can finally get some bills paid. lily's bills for her tests are now coming in... still owe about 900 dollars on those babies... *sigh*... yay for dogs ;)

the weather turned mighty chilly over the weekend... i might have to bust out my coat tomorrow... but it makes for such pretty views... i love my evening walks with lily. last night i saw, by far, the most amazing sunset of my life. the sky was more colorful than i have ever seen... wish i had managed to snap a photo. it was breathtaking... but autumn leaves are pretty, too ;)

what a fun weekend :) jackie and craig visited, and we had a good time at the bonfire on saturday night. didn't do much on sunday, and took yesterday off of work. feelin good today, but man, did i have a lot to catch up on. that's pretty much how the rest of the week is going... work, and more work...
speaking of work, my sister got a new job in livonia. she'll be moving back home with the parents this month, and starts in november. she's ecstatic about it... so congrats, danielle :) always glad to see her happy :) it will be interesting to see how the living situation works out. four cats in my parent's house... whoa... that's a lot of cats no matter where you live...
keep checkin over the next couple of days... still may have something new to say soon... maybe...

yay for the weekend ahead... jackie and craig are coming down to visit me tonight! we are heading over to brett's bbq tomorrow, which should be a great time. i'm a fan of big bonfires! next week will also be crazy busy... but i'm looking forward to it :)
in other news, i jumped on the scale this morning for my weekly check-in... and i can't believe it, but i have reached a point where i can confidently say that i am in the best shape i have ever been in. ever. through high school, college... nope. i've surpassed it all. i'm really close to my goal... should be there by halloween! i never, ever thought that it would actually happen... but i feel the best i have ever felt, and the scale and my clothes really show it! it's a great motivator to keep going... it's been two and a half years since i decided to get my butt in gear... whoo baby! i'm lovin it!
