man, all i have been doing the past two weeks is celebrating! i haven't been to the gym, and i really haven't been caring about what i eat. and it shows. but now that everyone knows the news, and things are getting back into a routine, i can now start to get things back to normal. and now i have a wedding to shoot for, to get in shape! :) i'll be dress shopping soon, so i have to whip myself up for that. i'm still in the 'healthy' weight range... even at 129 lbs. but i've lost almost all the muscle tone i have... and everything jiggles. plus my pants are tight, and i have bulges hanging over that really don't belong there. sexy, i know :) so back to the gym today... dog sitting has also really affected my free time to get there. i come home from work, take lily out, change, and then i'm off to dog sit. i did that mon-thurs this week, and yesterday was just a half day. i'm doing it again this week, but i'm going to try and get some short runs in there. i'm also going to attempt to get up earlier, so that i can get out of work before 5. that way i give myself more time after work, so that i can go to the gym and still have enough time to cook dinner when i get back.

anyway, so back on schedule. last weekend we took my ring to be resized, and they called yesterday to say it's ready! so we are going to pick it up today, if joe is feeling better. poor guy is sick again... something weird where he gets fevers/chills and lower back pain. he makes me nervous that there is something wrong with his kidneys or something... but so far it hasn't been super serious. it mimics how sick he was back in january... i don't know. we didn't know what it was then, either, and he was right as rain in about two days. so hopefully it just works itself out soon. he has a whole weekend to rest :) my ring can wait... it's not going anywhere :) although, he wanted to go today to make sure we had it for the party tonight. my friends are throwing a house party at their house to celebrate one of them becoming a homeowner (he closes on his new place on the 28th) and the other roommate had a birthday last week. then once they found out about joe and i, they threw that into the celebration :) so we'll see... i told him it wasn't that important, because it meant we had to drive all the way to maryland (he got the ring near his work) to pick it up... if he's not feeling well, i'm not dragging him all the way out there.

so that's the fun in store for this weekend. i booked my flight home for the 24th, and we're leaving for new york in three weeks. so we'll be setting a wedding date soon, and then in april, we'll be able to book the church (if we decide on april 2007). the church out here doesn't let you book a wedding more than 12 months in advance. so since we were thinking of winter/spring for a wedding, and most won't let you marry during lent, we picked the first weekend after, april 14, as one possibility. but it will be a popular date for that reason... so we'll see if we actually get it or not :)

i'm also trying not to be a psycho bride so far. i'm really really excited to be planning this, and when i make a checklist of all the decisions i have to make, i start wanting to make them NOW. especially when i contact a few venues and photographers, and find out they are already booking weddings in july of 2007! it's NUTS. but i keep reminding myself no matter when we set the date, there are enough vendors out there that we'll get a good one, no matter what. so i'm trying to chill out... once we have the date, location, church, and photographer, i can really settle down. most of the other details can wait a few months. but those are important, and i plan to have those settled by the middle of april, when my parents come to visit :)

but nothing planned for next weekend... the following weekend i'm running a 10k. yikes. another reason i really need to get some running in. two weeks to prepare for a 6 mile race. hmm.... i think i'll aim just to finish it. i was running really great two weeks ago, so maybe i'll do better than i'm anticipating... but i still need a lot of training. then there is another race after that in april, a 5 miler outside on one of virginia's trails. should be a really great race, if it's anything like last year's :)

so yay, racing season is about to start. i can't wait. i love those, and they really motivate me to keep on a schedule. winter weather always gets me down, and i always have a really hard time not gaining weight when it's cold. but pretty soon i won't have that as an excuse! spring is right around the corner, thank god! :)

so far this week has been great. i'm semi-busy... i've got dogsitting all this week until thursday, but no plans for this weekend. so once i get through this week, i can have another relaxing weekend, and enjoy the fact that february is almost over! we have made plans now to celebrate st. patrick's day in new york with his family... then the following weekend i'm flying to detroit to see mine. it will be the first time i've seen either of them since we got engaged, so those will be fun visits :)

last weekend was great... we announced the news to our friends, and then hung out the rest of the weekend. i got my cavities filled yesterday (i had the day off for president's day)... what were six turned out to only be three... so it was a lot less painful than i anticipated :) i've got another appointment on the 31st of march to have my top wisdom tooth removed. i'm not worried... i had a bottom one removed on the same side about two years ago, and it went fine. it's not causing me problems, but keeps food trapped, and has the potential to cause a slew of cavities and infections. so as prevention, it's coming out. i scheduled it on a friday afternoon, so that i only have to take half a day off, and i can use the rest of the weekend to recuperate :)

in other news, i've registered a new domain, for joe and i. i'm planning on making it a wedding website, with details about the date, ceremony, reception, etc... so that i can include more details than would fit on an invitation. then once the wedding is over, i'm planning on making it our family site :) it won't be a public site... too much personal information on there. but i'll make the password easy to remember, and anyone that knows me personally will have it, or can request it. i finalized the design over the weekend... now i just have to get it up there before i get sick of it and decide to start all over again :)

oh, and hi out there to joe's (and my future) family :) i had no idea my reader base had expanded until i found out that his family discovered the news of our engagement from my site before we got a hold of them! oops! luckily they weren't too upset :) i did get some laughs about how excited i was... i had taken photos of myself with the ring before even taking my coat off :) so hello, and i'll see you all very soon! :)

it's been three days, and i'm still smiling and singing to myself :) we've called and emailed most people, and we're telling our other friends out here tonight :) so that should be a fun evening! then tomorrow we are taking the ring to get resized... i'm going to be able to actually get some work done, since i won't have it to stare at all day :) it's so sparkly!! i was joking with my one friend that i feel like i need to be wearing an evening gown all day, with such a fancy ring :) it's truly beautiful... he did such a wonderful, thoughtful job on picking it out. there has been a bit of talk about when the wedding will be... since joe works with events that happen while congress is in session, we need (or would like) to pick a time when either they are out, or not as busy. so we tossed around the idea of a july/august wedding (2007)... but really, it's too far away! :) so now we're debating something in late winter/spring... maybe after easter. that starts to get into prime wedding season... but we might be able to get in early enough to get better rates :) but no dates yet, and we're gonna (ok, i'm gonna TRY) to relax and take our time with setting one :) i already started stressing out, and joe had to reel me back to reality last night. i just pray i don't go nuts with this, as i hear most brides tend to do.

so this week went by really quick. i got all my work projects finished, and can relax a little with my timeline. next week i'm dog sitting mon-fri, so that will eat up a bunch of my time. but i'm hoping to still have time to workout. i may need to start trying morning workouts... my evenings are always way to busy to get to the gym for an hour and a half. but i can push back my work start time in order to get to the gym by 5:30am... then i'd have time for a run and some weights, and still shower and get to work by 8:30. so after i'm done dog sitting, i'll have to try that out for a couple days. that means waking up at 5am... so we'll see if that happens :) i'm not always an early riser... but once i get in the routine, i should be fine.

so a mighty fine week... and i'm really looking forward to the next year :)

so most of you anticipated this, but it happened last night :) joe and i went to our favorite restaurant, and then hopped in the car to (i thought) tour the memorials at night. we get to the lincoln memorial, walk around a bit, and admire the full moon and beautiful view of the city. we then hop back in the car, and we stop by the bridge near the jefferson memorial, our favorite spot in the city, to see the monument and the jefferson lit up. before i know it, joe's on one knee, and making me cry :) it was wonderful, and we stayed on that spot for what seemed like forever :)

so yep, we're engaged :) the ring is slightly too big, so it has to be resized before i can wear it around proudly... but i had to get some photos of it before we took it in. it was such a great night... i made calls to my parents and whoever i thought would be awake close to midnight (and not interrupting)... and i'm still giddy :)

it's supposed to be 57 degrees and sunny today... i don't know how joe managed to get the perfect day planned, but he's good :)

joe showed this puzzle to me. oh my god, i love it! it's called sudoku, and it uses just logic and problem solving to win. i've beat games with four and five star difficulties on the washington post website (it's on their crossword puzzle game page)... but you can click here or here to play online :) the usa today flash version is more fun and easier to use. and addicting...

happy valentine's day! i'm in a great mood... got a few really cute and thoughtful cards from joe, lily, bailey, and poof :) joe and i detoured our plans for tonight... we originally were going to see a movie at the arlington cinema drafthouse (where we had our first date), but the late move is "the ringer" which neither of us wanted to see. so we're instead going to our favorite restaurant "la lomitas" for dinner, and then if it's not too cold, going to view the monuments/memorials at night. they're really beautiful all lit up... i'd been meaning to take one of those cheesy tours that take you around to all of them by bus, so you can see them illuminated. so that should be a fun romantic date :) i'm usually not a fan of this holiday, but i'm really looking forward to tonight :)

but until then, work work work. and then work some more. argh!

ready for another busy week. dog meeting tonight, dinner plans tomorrow (joe and i are recreating our first date for valentine's day) and a big project due thursday. dog sitting plans for wednesday were cancelled this morning, so that's one less thing i have planned :) i spent all this weeekend on the couch, pretty much. joe and i stayed in on saturday, waiting for the snow to fall. i wound up feeling really sick saturday night, but felt fine when i woke up sunday morning. must have been something i ate? who knows. but then sunday lily went beserk on our back porch in the snow... she LOVES it. she runs head first into snow banks and jumps around like a crazy person. it's great :) we got about 10 inches... enough to make us not want to travel far. so i rested up... didn't go to the gym, and really didn't count calories at all this weekend. i took a mental and physical break from my routine, since i'm not sure when i'll have the chance to do that again!

my allergies were really acting up last night and this morning. i'm allergic to cats, even though i have two :) normally it doesn't bother me... a few sneezes and itchy eyes every now and then. but not leaving the house for two days straight really got to me, and it felt like i had come down with a sinus infection when i woke up this morning. might have to look into a dr. appointment to get back on my allergy medication soon. i took allegra for a while, and it worked like a charm. but then i moved and switched doctors, and haven't been back on it.

so i'm back to the daily grind. it's bitterly cold today... it's been a while since we had weather under 20 degrees, and it looks like this is the last bit before spring starts arriving. so i'm grumbling through it, and looking forward to much warmer days ahead! only two more weeks left in february... and only four more weeks until my race! gotta make sure i'm ready. i'm thinking of running for 30 min 5 days/week, with one day of 45, then 50, 55, and finally 60. i usually wind up running about a 54 minute 10k for my first race of the season... i think my best time was somewhere near 52 minutes. no speedy gonzales, but good for me :) i want to get a 5k or two in as well this year, and try to beat my personal record of 27 minutes for those. but i've still got some work to do before i get anywhere near that goal!

anyway, i'm excited for tomorrow :) joe and i went to the arlington cinema and drafthouse for our first date last year, so that's where we are going again. should be a good time... i usually don't even like this holiday, but it's one of the rare times i've actually got something to look forward to :)

man, talk about busy. monday i had a meeting, tuesday i worked late and didn't get home until 10:30pm, last night i did a presentation for a college class at udc, and tonight i'm going to a wizards game. i was so tired after tuesday's 12 hour work day that i didn't really feel like working out on wednesday. but i'm still doing ok. last night was really fun to present in front of a class. my coworker's fiance teaches at the university of dc, and though she is in marketing, the class is about e-commerce. so she asked if i would mind coming in to talk with her students, so that they can get real life examples and their questions answered from someone who actually does it. i was nervous, but they all seemed to really like it, and i really enjoyed talking with them :) it's the first time i really gave a presentation where i felt really confident on the material. fun stuff! so tonight is relaxing and having fun with the ladies out here. we're going to the basketball game and then out on the town. there's supposed to be a snowstorm tomorrow, so i'm preparing to get my groove on tonight and then camp out the rest of the weekend with joe :)

next week is a little better... i have another meeting on monday, then joe and i are celebrating valentine's day on tuesday, and then i'm dogsitting on wednesday, and i have another big project due for work on thursday. another busy week, but i should be ok. february is flying by, and i'm trying to figure out when to come back to michigan for a visit. i'm hoping to fly back the week after st. patrick's day, as that seems to be the time when most people don't have anything going on. then my parents are coming to visit the weekend after easter... i can't wait! i've only had one visitor (hi creed!) since i moved here, so it will be fun now that i know my way around :)

so that's it... sorry for the lack of updates, but it's been crazy! :)

the weekend was pretty tame... we stayed in and watched movies and relaxed on friday, then saturday i worked out and we went grocery shopping, and then played games with a couple friends til about 1am. sunday we cooked enough food to feed an army... ok, joe cooked :) he made pigs in a blanket, vodka sauce w/penne, and we brought bags of pretzels and cheese and crackers :) add this to the cheese and salsa dip, potatoes, and nacho dip that our friends provided, and i ate way too much yesterday. but it was worth it! :) i worked out sunday morning so that i could enjoy myself all day, and i plan on working out today and tomorrow, too. my running is back in full swing... i made it 40 minutes on sunday morning and felt like i could have gone another 3 miles. so i'm bumping the time up to 45 minutes tonight, even though i'm exhausted. lily decided 4am was a good time for everyone to wake up, so i'm really beat today. i hope it doesn't affect my running... i might have to down an extra boost of caffine to get through it. but hey, at least i'm going :)

this week is a busy one, as usual. meeting tonight, getting my license plates tomorrow, two projects due on wednesday for work, and then possibly a presentation on thursday. i'm going to be dead on friday, i can feel it. at least i don't have anything planned for this weekend :)

work is BUSY. i have some long days ahead of me to meet some quick deadlines next week. i've also been looking into training classes and a coworker asked me to do a mini-presentation on e-commerce at a college course his fiance teaches at UDC. fun stuff, but man, i'm swamped. i also have an arlington dogs meeting next week... oy... when it rains it pours! but i'm finally back to feeling like my normal self, and i'm dealing with the stress of everything. i find that when i get stressed out, cleaning and organizing my surroundings helps immensely. it is sort of a procrastination method... but it feels so great when everything around me is in order, that i can fully concentrate on the task. then once the task is done, i can relax completely, and enjoy my free time again :)

so this weekend i'm going to try and come into work, but i have a feeling my badge doesn't grant me access after building hours. so if that happens, i'll just spend saturday cleaning and planning other things i've been putting off, so that when monday rolls around, i'll be free to just do the work that needs to get done :) so no big plans for the super bowl either... we're going to a friends house and bringing food over. should be fun, and i'm looking forward to relaxing for a couple of hours.

after feeling guilty about not taking lily to the park as often as i used to, last night we drove back to our old park, and had a great time :) i really miss taking her there every night... she always had so much fun with her buddies, and i really miss talking with the people there. i meet so many interesting people that come with their dogs... and the regulars that come i got to know pretty well. so it was fun catching up with them, and finding out how everyone has been doing. *sigh* i definitely have to make a point to come back more often. lily loves it, and i miss it. i just wish it didn't take a half hour in rush hour traffic to drive the 3 miles to get there.

so nothing crazy going on this weekend, and a busy week next week. then once friday rolls around, things will have slowed down, and i can relax a bit more. plus the following weekend we get a 3 day weekend for president's day, and i have my cavities filled. fun stuff :)
