found a really great article today on splenda and natural/artificial sweeteners. i've read some before, but this one spoke in a much easier to understand language, and i agree with everything they said. one thing i noticed toward the end is their plug for stevia... i'm interested in the sweetener, and i'm curious as to it's side effects, etc. anyway, here's the article:
splenda and women
in other news, this week is busy AGAIN. we have paperwork to sign this morning for our new place, then tomorrow we are meeting with a financial counselor, to discuss our finances... then we leave friday for michigan, and come home sunday in time to celebrate the fourth again out here :) i'm not sure we're going to venture downtown again. it was a madhouse, and we wound up missing parts of the fireworks. but then after the holiday, i have NO PLANS for the next THREE weekends :) i'm so excited to have free saturdays... you have no idea. august is turning out to be a CRAZY month. the two weekends we are going to be in DC, we will be packing and moving. i'll be so freakin glad to see the summer end.
so anyway, i'll try to keep the updates coming, but i may have to take a hiatus in august until we're settled. i'm still really excited to be moving!

and we're under 300!!! :) i found my wedding dress last night, and also decided on this dress for the bridesmaids. it comes with a wrap, and i love it. i think everyone will look gorgeous! if you want to see the wedding dress, email me and i'll send you the link. no pics of me in it, since i went solo... but i knew it was it when i stood in the mirror :) we also met with the dj this morning, and are pretty sure we're going to go with him. we just need to send over the deposit, and i can check that off the list! i meet with the florist next month, and then with the baker in september. save the dates are going out at the end of next month... things are chugging right along!

ok, so the photographer got booted off tonight's show and postponed until next week on abc. but i'll be sure to watch it whenever it's on!

anyone at home on a friday night, you should check out nightline abc tonight! our photographer (that just did our engagement photos) is going to be on there discussing boudoir photos, and the current "fad". i know i'll be watching :) speaking of wedding, i have two dress appointments tomorrow to try on my two favorite dresses again, and then katie and i are going to david's bridal to finalize the bridesmaid dresses, and so that i can order my dress for laura's wedding. then sunday morning we have a meeting with our potential dj... should be fun! other than that, we're just getting ready for our trip to michigan next weekend... i'm petsitting all next week, and then we leave friday night. we're boarding lily at a dog daycare since our vet was full... it's called dogs by day, and it's a cageless daycare/boarding facility. we visited it for the first time yesterday, and lily seemed to enjoy herself. there were a ton of dogs there, so apparently lily acted a little anxious. so we're taking her there again this weekend for a few hours, to give her one more time before we're gone for the weekend.
anyway, busy as always... but after next weekend, i can finally RELAX for a few weekends. i'm going to need to rest up for august, that's for sure!

things are still busy as hell, but i'm chugging through it with thoughts of ample space and multiple closets ;) i found a copy of the floor plan of the new place: two bedroom floor plan. i pass by the place on my walks with lily twice a day, and it just makes me more anxious to get inside :)
i finalized the save the date templates... now all i need are the engagement photos, so that i can order the magnets, and the final guest list with addresses. i'm hoping to have everything ready to mail out in august, which is 8 months before the wedding. today is the 10 month mark... still so much to do, but little by little, it's getting done. more wedding dress shopping this weekend... hopefully i find the one! :)

it's official! joe and i are moving... down the street :) we're going from 580 sq ft one bedroom, to an 1188 sq ft 2 bedroom with 2 bathrooms! AND we still have a backyard patio, AND it's only $400 more a month! WOOHOO!! we move sometime in august, and i seriously cannot wait. now our visitors can have their own room, their own bathroom, and won't feel like they are staying in animal kingdom. we have a bay window on the first floor living room, as well as on the 2nd floor bedroom. our cats are going to love it! we will have room for a table near the kitchen in the breakfast "nook", and another dining room table, whenever we decide we want to get one. we gave the official "yes we want it" yesterday, and joe signs the paperwork on friday :) august is going to be a tough month... for two weekends we'll be in new york, then moving, and then back to new york for labor day. but then in september we'll have the whole month to relax, unpack, and get settled, just in time for the six month mark before the wedding, when a whole new list of "to-do"'s appear :) but YAY... i am so excited for our new place. we can have people over for dinner finally, now that we'll actually have a table... we can buy in bulk because we'll have storage space... we'll each have our own closet space... and now we can actually register for wedding gifts and not have to ship them into storage right away ;) the plan is to stay there for 3-4 years, save up more for a down payment (we have almost half right now), and then buy a place. it will give us time to pay down my student loans and other debts, and get my so-so credit to stellar ratings :) it's already improving in the last year... another 3 years and we'll be able to qualify for outstanding rates.
can you tell i'm excited? ;)

this weekend was full of good news :) corinne is back home and recovering... although she cannot walk for six-eight weeks, she is at least improving. baby emma is really ELLA... thanks for whoever corrected me on that... and baby allie (jackie's daughter) took her FIRST STEPS yesterday! she turns one year in august... i can't get over how fast she is growing!
we also had our engagement photos on sunday morning. we won't see the full results and proofs for another two weeks, but we got a preview of a few shots last night:

i love them! there are a few shots that make me look heavier in the face... and it was ridiculously muggy that morning, so to combat the frizziness, i put too much stuff in my hair, and it wound up looking stringy and greasy :( however, neither joe and i looked like we were dying (which we were... it went up to 95 that day), so that's good :) the photographers were a lot of fun to work with, and i really can't wait to have them on our wedding day! at least that day i'll have a professional doing my hair and makeup, so those photos will turn out much better ;) but besides my own hair drama... the photos are gorgeous. if you're in dc, you really ought to check out regeti's photography. they are my favorite vendor so far for our wedding :)
after the photo shoot, we played softball again yesterday and despite the heat and only having 8 players, we did pretty well. i got to play first base... sucked at it, but it was more fun than playing catcher :) still lost, but both games we came close.
in other bigger happy news, joe and i found out that a two bedroom apartment in our building has opened up, and we are next on the waiting list! joe meets with the building manager today to talk it over... but if we wind up getting it, we will be moving in august. only down the street, but it we will go from a one bedroom 580 sq ft place to a two bedroom, two bath, 1180 sq foot place. HUGE difference. the only thing we're waiting on is to see how much the rent will be... we wanted to save for a down payment for a place for next year, so if it's too high, we may just stay put. if we DO move, we plan on renting for another 2-3 years until we can save up more for a bigger down payment. so it's exciting... but it does continue my streak of not living in one space for longer than a year. i'm going on a record of four places in four years... didn't know if i wanted to make it five for five!
this week is another busy one. i've got our annual member meeting for the arlington dogs group that i'm a board member on, then another meeting tuesday night. saturday i made two dress appointments to go try on my dream dress at a bridal salon out here, and sunday we have an appointment with the guy we'd like to be our dj for our wedding. hopefully we can book him on that day, so i can check one more thing off the list :) the following weekend we are coming in to michigan for our family reunion... then we finally have a few weekends with no plans! phew!

good news first: congratulations to corinne and brian on their new baby "will" (born on 6/7) and marc and trisha on their new baby "emma" (born 6/14)!! new babies are doing great, and are SO adorable! now the bad: corinne is not doing well recovering from the birth. having been home for a week after complications during the birth, she is now back in the hospital, and so far things are not looking good (as in life-threatening not good). we're worried sick about her, so keep her in your thoughts that things turn out ok. she's going to need them.
for those of you planning on attending the wedding, i've secured all of our hotel room blocks, and have posted all the information on our website: joe-carrie.com. so be sure to check it out if you want to start making plans. apparently there is some huge event going on the same weekend as our wedding, and rooms downtown are already being booked. but we have about 100 rooms reserved, so our guests should be all set. i hope!

other things that have been going on: found out some great news on saturday... missy (and shawn) are pregnant! missy is due in january... i'm so excited for them! i can't wait until they find out what they are having!! :) congratulations you guys!
my car (only 3 years old) had the engine light turn on last week, right before my trip to michigan... and it sounded as though my tranmission would need to be rebuilt (engine was revving and wouldn't go above 25mph). so i drove around a rental car for 3 days while they looked at it, and come to find out, it was just a solinoid (sp?) that failed, and was causing problems with the transmission. everything was under warranty, but it was still really annoying, and makes me nervous for the future of my car. but it's back now and everything is running fine.
had a dr. appointment today, regarding a pilonidal cyst that i have... and it turns out i most likely will need to have surgery to remove it. it's not major surgery... only outpatient, and takes an hour... but i have to be out of work for a week, and won't be completely healed for 8 weeks. and during that week, i won't be able to move, and will have to lie on my stomach the whole time (the cyst is near my tailbone). i mentioned my wedding timeline to the surgeon, and he suggested scheduling the surgery before november to make sure it's healed before the wedding. however, i'm also in laura's wedding in december, so it looks like i may be having it in september so that it doesn't interfere with that. we'll see... i'm really not looking forward to it, and i'm scared to death something will go wrong. i'm debating waiting until after the wedding to get it over with, and scheduling it for next spring. but it has the potential for flare-ups before then, which is REALLY painful, and even those little flare-ups take 3-4 weeks to heal. *sigh* decisions, decisions. the fact that it was over three years since i last had a flare-up leads me to want to wait until after the wedding... but it's definitely inevitable. yuck.
i started going back to weight watcher meetings. i've been doing it off and on, using the online tools... but after my weight crept back up to 134 (my lifetime goal was 130, and my healthy weight limit for my height/age is 127)... i decided it wasn't working on my own. so i went back to the center downtown, and i'm so glad i did. it's been two weeks, and i've lost 3.5 lbs :) once i get under 130, i don't have to pay anymore (yay lifetime!)... but my goal for the wedding is 118... so i've got some work to do, and i plan on going to meetings until i get there. i love love LOVE the guy who runs them, and tuesday nights are my meeting nights. so wish me luck for tomorrow's weigh in! this weekend i was horrible with our out of town guests... so i won't be surprised if it's not the loss i was hoping for.
and last but not least, katie (my friend and bridesmaid that lives in dc) got approved for her transfer out to houston, texas! she leaves in august, so i'll be sad to see her go. she promises she'll be able to come to the wedding and everything... but it still sucks that she's moving away. but i'm also excited for her and her job, and she'll be closer to her family and friends in mississippi. so it's a good move for her... congratulations katie!

saw this article in the post today:
here .coms the bride
i had to laugh. that is me to a "t". i love, love, love theknot. i have planned almost every single detail of the wedding with advice and guidance from girls on those message boards. i see photos both from girls who have married in our church, as well as at our reception site. i know how our photos are going to turn out from the countless online photo albums other girls have posted that also used the same photographer. and i seriously don't know how girls plan without it. i'm super addicted... i'm on the site almost every day. whether it's asking questions about how to word the ceremony programs and invitation inserts, to giving advice about how to deal with out of town guests or crazy bridesmaids. it's really fun to talk with other girls who are going through exactly the same thing you are... almost a support group of sorts. i will actually miss it when i'm married :)
this weekend was a fun one. we wound up going out to eat on friday, and touring the memorials. saturday joe and his friends went golfing and then we went to the nationals game... and decided to stop by our friend's bar and our softball sponsor, the argonaut. in two hours we managed to get ourselves hammered... and then promptly all of us took a long nap before getting up to go out again :) this time we wound up at capitol lounge and hawk n' dove... where we got our groove on and closed down the bar :) thanks to lily waking me at 6am, i got about 3 hours of sleep, and then had to be up for our softball game. we lost... again... but still had a good time. we only have about 5 more sundays til the end, so i'm praying we can get one win in there. but i'm really glad shawn, bobby, and kim came down... they were a blast, and i can't wait to see them all again at lobsterfest.
next weekend we finally have our engagement pictures on sunday morning... joe and i are going shopping saturday to figure out what we should wear. jeans definitely, but we don't want to match, but don't want to clash each other either. he's thinking a black shirt, and i'm thinking maybe i can find something in a green... but we'll see. i also have a new dog park opening ceremony to attend saturday morning, followed by another baseball game at rfk stadium. the nationals are playing the yankees... and if you know joe... you automatically know he's a HUGE yankees fan. so of course we can't miss this game ;) then the following weekend i made appointments to go dress shopping again... and then the next weekend we are flying back to michigan for the family reunion. so busy next couple of weekends, but then we'll have 3 solid weekends with no plans. good time to relax before august starts... gives me time to get a lot of do-it-yourself items done.
anyway, things are really going well... and since returning to weight watchers two weeks ago, i've dropped 3.5 lbs :) that's a good start, and i'm only 10.5 lbs away from where i should be :) i love the leader at this center... he's really motivating, and makes us all laugh. i should reach those 10lbs in no time!

back from memorial day weekend, and had a great time. although we were worried about joe's cousin's husband for a while, everything turned out ok (he went to the emergency room). i also met one of joe's good friends (a groomsman in our wedding) and had fun watching trees burn in a big bonfire ;) joe's family (and my future in laws) are the best, and always make me feel right at home :) lily loved it... she was in the lake practically the whole weekend! she put up a big fight when it came time to get her back in the car to go home. i know she will love going back for labor day weekend :) my parents are coming along that weekend... it will be a "meet the inlaws" weekend in new york... whoo boy... hopefully everything goes smoothly!
in other news, last weekend, my car started acting up on friday morning, engine light came on, and turns out my transmission needs to be rebuilt. on a three year old car. *sigh* luckily it's all under warranty, so it won't cost me anything, but still... that's ridiculous, and it makes me fear what the future holds for that car. so while i'm waiting for that to be fixed, i flew to michigan over the weekend to visit with my family. my mom and i went to appointments to try on wedding gowns... i narrowed it down to two that i really love. you can email me for photos (they let my mom use the digital camera)... i need to try them on again before i really decide which one to choose. i'm also making appointments to try on dresses out here, to make sure i am really certain i love the one i pick :) i went to my cousin's graduation party, and also hung out with laura and jackie. i have some cute photos of allicea... she's growing so FAST! she's almost walking now, and she'll be a year in august.
this weekend friends are coming in from new york, and i'm really looking forward to it. we're going to a national's game on sat, and have a softball game on sunday. it's a short visit, but i hope everyone has a good time. hopefully i remember to take some photos :)
other than that, i've been involved with the dog group again, and helping another park get lights. i'm on the advisory committee, and i'm also helping to get our other group going again, with new members. in between THAT, i'm still trying to keep things going with wedding planning... i have to redo the map insert for our invitation... my mom and sister had a tough time figuring it out when i showed them on friday. we have our engagement photos on the 18th, so once we get those back, i'll be sending out save the date cards, so i have to finish designing those, too, as well as finalize our hotel room blocks. i'm missing one hotel contract, and it's been a BEAR getting a hold of them. i counted how many times i was transferred on my last call: 8 times. 8 times i had to explain my story to someone, be put on hold, and then re-explain it all again. if it wasn't right next door to all the other blocks, i'd just give up... but we need everyone close together.
and somewhere in there, i am working at my job ;) seriously, it's been crazy, but at least it's all been fun! but i'd give anything for a weekend free from events. just a time to sit back and relax... no travelling... no plans. but so far, i don't see that happening til september... and then it's six months before the wedding... and a whole slew of "to-do" pop up for that. argh... can i go on my honeymoon yet??? :)
in other news, last weekend, my car started acting up on friday morning, engine light came on, and turns out my transmission needs to be rebuilt. on a three year old car.
