every day since january 2005 (when i started my new job) i would visit the little convenience store downstairs and say hi to the lady who ran it, kay. she knew me every morning and was always really happy to see everyone. last week i went downstairs to get my usual coffee, and a note on the door stated:
"We regret to inform you that a tragedy has beset Kay Lee and her family. This past Sunday Kay and her husband stumbled into deep water while clamming near Assateague Island.
Kay's husband died in the accident and Kay is hospitalized. We have not heard directly from family members, but we expect that Wonder Market will be closed until temporary arrangements can be made."
i'm really sad... not only am i sad about kay's state... but to have her husband die... i can't imagine coming out of a terrible accident and finding out the news that your significant other didn't make it :( i think wedding plans have me in ultra-sensitive mode regarding couples... but still... so, so sad.

what timing. we consolidate debt to save $400 a month, and then joe's car dies (it needs a new transmission for $2800, at 200,000 miles). so rather than fix his car, now we're getting a new lease car, for probably about $400/month. hey, at least it works out :) and joe gets a new car! in the meantime, joe has to metro into work, cab it from the metro station, and then i've been picking him up at night. it's been a really busy week... we had two meetings with dj's (and we finally picked one!), plus joe's car dying... now we have to go research new cars to figure out what he wants. so my head has been spinning with all the things to do, wedding, car, and budget related. not to mention katie's going away party is this weekend, and then another friend of ours is moving up to NY, so they are having a going away party the following weekend. then it's time to gear up for august. i have something going on every weekend, until sep. 8th. the first two weekends we are going out of town, then it's the county fair in arlington (i volunteered to work a booth all weekend), then i'm petsitting, and then it's labor day, and we're back up to NY for a 'meet the parents' weekend. then right after that, we're moving! time is going to fly by. i'm going to be SO excited once we are moved in, and everything is all settled. then october rolls around, and the 6 month mark before the wedding! that's when a whole new set of to-do lists start up... ugh.
but some good news, we put a deposit down on our honeymoon!! we're going on a 7 day cruise to the western caribbean, on the new royal caribbean ship freedom of the seas. it's ENORMOUS. i am REALLY REALLY excited :) we're stopping off at cozumel, mexico, the grand cayman islands, montego bay, jamaica, and then haiti. we have all day at each place, and two days at sea... god i can't wait to just sit back and relax :) i'm also getting myself back into shape... i've kept up the running this week, and i'm up to 2.75 miles again. that will be up to 3 next week. i feel great, and i'm feeling more confident about the 10-miler in october! only 11 more weeks!
so i'll post more news on the car when we get it, hopefully sometime this weekend! :)

so i have consistently (for the past two months at least) gotten up every morning with the dog at 6am, and i have taken her on a one mile walk. i do the same thing in the evening when i get home, time permitting. so since i have gotten into the routine, i decided it was time to try morning runs again. so mon/wed/fri this week, i took the dog on her normal walk, but afterwards, dropped her off and went on a run. it felt great! the morning walk helps me wake up and get motivated, and i forgot how much i really do like to run. i signed up back in may for the army 10-miler race again this year, and it's fast approaching in october. so it was time for me to start getting serious about training... and the fact that my wedding dress is scheduled to come in december is even more motivation to make sure i fit into it :) i've been eyeing a new running skirt for a long time... and they've gone on sale, plus i found a discount code for 25% off... so i caved and ordered one. i got the skirtsports marathon girl coolmax skirt, in all black. i can't wait to get it!! if anyone else wants the 25% off discount, just type in "bakery" in the section where it asks for a code... it's good until july 26 :)
so yay, i'm back running :) i'm also super excited about the fact that joe and i are saving an extra four hundred dollars a month with our new financial planning scheme. it really helps when our rent increases, and now i won't be freaking out about wedding costs as much :)
oh, and as you can see, work has allowed a little wiggle room with the websites we're allowed to visit... so i can update again during my free time. i know, you're all ecstatic ;) no big plans for the weekend. we meet with the wedding florist tomorrow morning, and two more dj's next week on monday and tuesday. by then i think we'll have seen enough to make a decision, and book one of them! here's hoping... i want to check something else off the list already! ;)

wow, sorry for the lack of updates. my work has gone crazy with security. at first, we were restricted to only state department websites. i couldn't even get to yahoo to check my mail. they've lightened up a little bit, but i still can't reply to messages or delete them at work. only read and download them, which to me, defeats the purpose of security. well, incoming anyway. apparently they are soley concerned with outgoing. so any site that requires a log in (except yahoo and some online banking sites) i'm restricted from visiting. since of course i did most of my website updates on my downtime at work, it's been a while since i had a chance to actually update this!
so here we go: congrats to justin and tricia, they had a baby girl (riley paige) on the 7th! joe and i will be visiting them during lobsterfest the first weekend of august in new york :) i can't wait!
we have lost several softball games, and are now down to our last three for the summer. we are 0-15-1 (we tied one game) :) nice :) but it's been fun, and i met a lot of new people!
wedding planning is still chugging. we are interviewing dj's right now, i ordered my dress, and the save the date cards will be ordered next week, and be sent out by the end of july. we are meeting with the florist this weekend... after that, we can chill out for a bit, and concentrate on budget planning... yuck.
we have our move date: september 8th. we close on our place and get to move in to the two bedroom. my own closet! woohoo! i seriously can't wait. we met with a financial planner today who helped us plan out our budget, and helped us find a way to consolidate all our bills. it is going to help us a ton!
so pretty good news all around. everything is coming along, and no major problems yet! i'm looking forward to our trips to new york, and labor day (when our parents meet) :) should be a great weekend :)

well, we got the rest of our photos back, and i love them!! we only have them online at the moment, i'm still waiting for the cd with the high res files on them so i can order the save the dates... but you can view my favorites online:
we had a great weekend with my family in michigan. we wound up staying much later than we usually do, partly due to us arriving later on friday. so i'm sorry we didn't get to meet up jackie... i hope you forgive me! we got back pretty late last night, and picked up the dog this morning. she's been sleeping ever since! she did come back with a wound on a her leg, so i don't plan on taking her back to that boarding place any time soon. it's good for emergencies, but when my dog comes back with a gash on her leg, and no one seems to be able to tell me what happened, it doesn't make me feel good about leaving her there again.
now i'm home, went to work today, and have tomorrow off. joe and i are not sure what we're doing tomorrow... for the next three weekends we both have NO plans... i can't WAIT to just relax on a saturday for a change, in my pj's :) our next trip is for lobsterfest in new york the first weekend in august... it will be the first time most of joe's friends have seen us since we got engaged, and also two girls have recently had babies and are newly pregnant. so lots of fun girl talk to look forward to :)
for now, i'm going through the photos again, and finding more to post online :) my photographer rocks :)
