not wanting to give up my caffine buzz in the morning, but not being able to afford the cafe mocha's every day (both money and calorie wise), i switched to regular coffee. but needing it to be sweeter, i use two artificial sweetener packets every day. so i was ecstatic to read this this morning:

are sugar substitutes bad for you?

i'll cheat and give you the answer: NO. :) i'll continue my sweetener laden addiction with a worry free mind, thank you.

grrr. so, just before we take off tomorrow for our long weekend, joe goes to our rental office to ask about getting the keys to our new place next friday, to move in. i already booked the movers for saturday at 9am, and we had started discussing moving over utilities. however... today our office tells us that they will not be ready by friday. wtf?? when were they going to tell us? so now our move-in date has been pushed back another two weeks. i'm so annoyed. i'm still trying to get a hold of the movers to reschedule, and i'm frustrated with the office. oh well, gives us two more weeks to go through and get rid of things we don't want. *sigh*

my sister also gave me some sad news. she has to put her cat chloe to sleep, possibly tonight. if you know my sister at all, you'll know this was HER cat... her baby. and this will hit her extremely hard :( she rescued chloe and her sister cheeba from a parking lot when they were 5 weeks old... she has nursed this cat through all kinds of sicknesses, and now it's just too much. so send good thoughts her way... she's going to need them.

well, joe and i are off tomorrow for new york. we won't be back until tuesday, and then i'll post the photos and updates when we get back. now that we have a free weekend next weekend, i'm hoping to get some work done finally :) then it's back to new york for a wedding... and then we FINALLY move. i hope.

so i'm feeling better, but i'm still not 100%. that was the worst sore throat i've ever had... and for it to last two and a half weeks was highly annoying. the dr. diagnosed the viral infection, so no antibiotics were going to work. i just had to ride it out :( ugh. but, today was the first day i woke up and didn't have it hurting, so that's a good sign :)

in other news, we have had animal drama all last week. our landlords notified us that the coporate headquarters were going to be doing surprise inspections all week, and that they did not know which units were going to be searched. since we are only supposed to have one animal (lily), i had to take the cats on a vacation for a week. so all last week they spent their days at dave's and kevin's house. thanks again guys!! :) HOWEVER... when we visited joe's family last weekend, his mom mentioned they had a flea problem, but that she had bombed the house. and normally, lily is on her frontline flea preventative, but of course i had forgotten to give it to her this month. so guess who brought home fleas with her. ugh. since the cats were on vacation, i hoped that i could get rid of the fleas before they returned home on sunday. but monday morning, sure enough, they got them, too :( so yesterday was another trip to the vet, and $300 later, all animals are fully vaccinated, and completely flea-free :) i've been itching like crazy though... thinking about fleas in our house drives me crazy. the vet said i really caught them early though... so it should be really easy to rid the house of them. it also helps that we are moving in two and a half weeks, so even if i don't manage to vacuum them all up, we're leaving, and should be fine in our new place. hopefully the new tenants after us don't have pets! but just a warning to those of you that have dogs... make sure you get them on a flea preventative!! if i had been the responsible one, none of this would have happened. *sigh*

we've also reached the 8 month mark countdown before the wedding :) time is still flying by... the next month is going to be a blur. labor day travels, moving, and then a new york wedding... and then it will be october. and then the holidays, and then boom, it's wedding time. i'm so freaking excited. i keep going over our honeymoon plans, and sometimes i'm even more excited for that ;) i really want to tour the mayan ruins, and visit the waterfalls in jamaica. but i also want to whip myself into shape before the day arrives. i've gone back to counting points... and the past three weeks, i've lost 7 pounds :) yay me! i love weight watchers. only 10 more to go, and i'll be happy. the sore throat and overall feeling of sickness has kept me from working out, but next week i'm ready to get back in there. losing weight is one thing, but it wasn't until i started running and lifting weights that i saw some definition and toning. but the 7 pound loss is definitely helping ;)

speaking of that, i really wish i could afford a personal trainer. i don't know anyone that goes to my gym, so i can't find a workout buddy... but i really wish i could have someone there to keep me going. i was using the book 'buff brides' for a workout plan... and for the first 3 weeks, i really liked it. i just wish i had someone watching over me, to make sure i'm doing everything correctly, and give me encouragement. oh well... maybe pictures of our cruise ship will be motivation ;)

sorry for those of you that have emailed me recently... the flea and sickness drama has kept me pretty busy or completely wiped out... so i've been slacking with the responses. i'll get to them soon though! :)

ugh. i have felt awful the past week and a half. and it doesn't help that we've been super crazy busy. i took two sick days from work, and i still feel like crap. i can't shake this sore throat. i haven't had an appetite in a week, and i've lost four pounds. which may sound like a good thing, but i don't think that's the healthiest way to lose weight. and i'm really tired all the time. i finally called the doctor yesterday, and i have an appointment for friday morning to figure out what's going on. meanwhile, i'm popping advil cold and sinus pills every four hours... so i'm either miserable with a sore throat that hurts so bad it makes my eyes water, or i'm in out of it in a complete fog, and no sense of smell (which i think has contributed to my loss of appetite). blah.

in other news, joe's car has been holding up well to our travels :) we just got back from new york again on sunday night... i didn't want to mention it on here in case he looked, but joe's best friend shawn turns 30 this month, and his wife threw him a surprise party up in syracuse. so even though we were just in new york the weekend before, we traveled back up to celebrate with them :) it was so much fun... i was still pretty sick, but i still managed to win in the poker game we played. luck was with me that night... can't say i played it all really well, but i still managed to come out the winner :) shawn seemed like he had a great time, too :) we spent the rest of our time with joe's parents at the lake house, and lily had a wonderful time. she's getting so much braver with swimming... she started paddling out into the middle of the lake, and we had to call her back before she got too far! i think she was sopping wet all weekend :)

so now we are home for the next two weekends. i'm volunteering at the arlington county fair this weekend, and then petsitting next weekend. then we are going back to new york for labor day... leaving thursday and returning tuesday. it's "meet the parents" (my parents meet joe's) weekend, and i'm really excited about it. then the following weekend we are moving into our new place (less than a month to go!) and then our final trip back up to new york for a friend's wedding near long island. oy. so i'm pretty busy, but it's all fun stuff :)

now i'm just trying to get through this week until i can get some antibiotics from the doctor. i'm sick of feeling like crap, and trying to focus on work has been really difficult. ugh...

so i'm trying really hard to learn how to cook. i've moved on from my glorious days of pasta with tomato sauce, and mac n' cheese to actually looking up recipes in a cookbook :) however... i've said it before and i'll say it again... i suck at this. case in point... tuesday i try to cook pork and stir fry some snow peas and red peppers. i was cooking rice at the same time, and when the pork stir fry was done, the rice still had 20 min to simmer. no biggie, i turned off the burner on the stir fry and sat down for 15 min. i came back to check on the rice, and discovered i had turned off the WRONG burner. the stir fry was now WAY overcooked, and the rice was a big mush. *sigh* i was so sad, but learned my lesson about making sure i'm turning off the right one. then yesterday i attempted to make stuffed green peppers. not wanting to overcook that, i wound up undercooking it, and the meat inside the peppers was a little pink, and the peppers were way too crisp. not terrible, but still a very amateur mistake. joe's been such a good sport, and gave me an "A" for effort :) tonight i'm attempting rosemary chicken with wild rice. people, it doesn't get much more basic than that, so let's pray i make at least one edible meal this week :)

in other news, we finally got joe a car! we found a used mitsubishi montero at carmax on saturday. i was so impressed with that place! they were really quick and efficient, and their whole inventory is online :) they even let you take the car for 5 days and if you hate it... even if it's just the color you hate, you can bring it back no questions asked, and no penalties. but no matter, joe really likes it. i think he's just happy to have a car with power locks, power windows, and a/c that works :) i'll take a photo one of these days... it's silver with blank interior. very stylish :) we're taking it on our trip up to new york this weekend, so that will be a fun time. we're still trying to sell his other car, transmission problems and all. we're asking $500 for it, so if you know anyone that wants a 1994 Ford Explorer with 200,000 miles on it, let me know.

no other big news. i'm glad to have the car situation figured out, and we're gearing up for our move in september. wedding plans are still in full swing, and i can't wait for our new place, where we will have a real kitchen table, so i can use it as a workspace. joe and i are attending a wedding in september in new york (our fourth trip up there in a six week time frame)... it will be fun to go to a wedding while i'm in full fledged planning mode :) that, and i'm looking forward to our trip on labor day, where it's a "meet the parents" weekend. let's just hope it's not ben stiller style!
