wow... i don't usually get this kind of treatment, so i wanted to give out some kudos. i lost the gel earbuds on my bodyglove earglove headphones, and not wanting to buy a whole new pair just for some little gel part, i called customer service to find the replacements. their manufacturing company, fellows, is sending them to me free of charge! it was the nicest customer service line i've ever contacted. there was no transferring, the first person who answered the phone could help me, and the whole call took about 2 minutes :) and yay, free stuff is always good :)

bootcamp today was tough, but in a good way. we did a lot of running, and i have a feeling pushups are going to be a daily struggle. which is great, because my arms are by far my weakest muscle group. we did an exercise called 'suicides' today on the soccer field. we ran to the quarter mark, did one pushup, then ran back to start. then ran to halfway, two pushups, back to start. then 3/4th's, three pushups, back, and then all the way across, four pushups and back to start. and then did it again. i thought i was gonna die, but i got through it :) i'm sore beyond belief, but hopefully this gets easier ;) at least the weather was awesome. next week it will be near freezing... brrrrrr.... i'm gonna need some hot chocolate out there to keep me going :)

5am, and i was ready and awake this morning. 42 degrees out, but i was ready... and i had a great time at bootcamp! it's the perfect blend of running and body shaping, and doing it 5 days a week should really help me see results. there are about 20 girls out there, so i don't feel so alone, and it's motivating knowing if they can do it, so can i :) a few girls have been doing it for over a year, and they look fantastic :) so it gives me hope ;) i was also worried i wasn't going to have time to get home and get ready for work, but i made it in today with plenty of time to spare. it's going to get interesting when it snows... but thankfully, it doesn't snow out here too often!

this weekend joe and i had our first of two marriage classes. even though i know it's the catholic sponsored classes, i really didn't expect it to be SO religious based. for crying out loud, we spent a whole hour getting a talk on "prayer in the family" and how to work prayer into our every day lives, and pray with our kids. overall, it was interesting, and i enjoyed spending that time with joe... but i could have cut out half the day and been fine. next saturday we discuss finances and natural family planning. fun, fun ;)

sunday morning, we went out to the marine corps marathon route through town, and caught my friend will as he ran by, and shouted words of encouragement. i think this was his 4th marathon in the past year... go will! :) even though he didn't do as well as he hoped (he did 3:09 in baltimore two weeks ago, so his time of 3:25 yesterday was a disappointment)... that's still an incredible time. he's taking a break though, and won't be joining me in the veteran's day 10k out at hains point. it's my one and only race this year, but i couldn't let a whole year go by without one :) it's no marathon, but it will still be tough for me!

this weekend we have our marriage class again, and then saturday night we are getting together with joe's family to celebrate the "november birthdays". should be a fun time, especially since i'm one of the birthdays :) then i have a 3 day weekend, and then my mom is coming to visit. then the holidays begin! but in the meantime, i'm still trying to get motivated to get the house in order. wish me luck ;)

oh, and joe's laptop hard drive decided now was a great time to fail. windows crashed and stated there was a "physical problem with the hard drive" and then the bios couldn't find a bootable device. nice. so i'm in the midst of getting him back up and running with a new hard drive. i also got my computer bag... only to find out that it's too small :( my laptop is 15.6" wide, and the bag measures 16"... but it's about 1/2 inch too small to fit it in through the zipper. *sigh* so i'm still on the lookout for a stylish bag. even though i probably won't take it out much ;)

my phone text messaging feature is not working, and i'd like a gmail invite. of course, the only way to get one is either to text yourself a code, or get an invite from someone who has them. sooooo... anyone want to send me an invitation??? send to me@carrie.cc please!!! :)

had to make it girly... and with the money i received from joe's parents for my birthday (thank you!!) i bought a laptop bag ;)

got it on ebay for $40. nice! it's harder than i thought it would be to find a cute bag that holds a 17" monitor, but i love this one :)

i also got a few items for bootcamp... some running tights, wool socks, and a windbreaker. i'm determined to beat out the cold and get in shape!! if anyone has any other cold weather gear they'd like to suggest, i'm all ears :) the guys at the store wanted to know what would possess me to sign up for six months of boot camp. i just laughed and said "i'm getting married in six months"... and they just laughed. but they DID give me 10% off my entire purchase... woohoo! i love pacers. it's expensive, but the people there know their stuff, and they are always so fun :)

now to work on the early rising thing... lily has me up at 6:30am, but next week, i have to be up at 5am if i'm going to make it out to boot camp by 6am. oy. bedtime at 9pm anyone?

well, i overslept this morning, so no bootcamp for me. which is probably good, because my shoulder is hurting still. i think i overdid it this weekend... but i have a few days to rest it again, so i should be fine for when the real classes begin next monday. i'll report on my first day then! i need to stock up on some wool socks before then... the temperatures are dropping fast!

this weekend was nonstop. it was fun... we (joe and his mom and grandmother) tasted the cake and picked out a design for our wedding on saturday. lemon flavored pound cake with white buttercream filling, and white buttercream frosting :) yum! i also saw my aunt (we went out to dinner in michigan with my mom and sister) who is making all the jewelry for the wedding, and the necklaces are beautiful. then laura's shower made for a long day on sunday (we arrived at 9am to setup, and stayed until 4pm)... but it was a good shower, and it looked like all the guests and laura had a good time :)

but the big news came as a complete surprise to me when i arrived home in michigan. my parents surprised me with a birthday/christmas gift... a new laptop! i was stunned! it's huge... 17" widescreen display, with windows xp media. it's an hp... and i'm still tinkering with it... i've never had a laptop before :) i still couldn't believe it, and i'm incredibly greatful... thank you mom and dad!!! :)

so i'll post photos of that when i have time. we got a few new items for our place from joe's mom and grandmother. they took him shopping for his birthday, and his mom also went to town on the weeds out back. she did such a good job, joe and i are almost ready to start laying down the bricks! finishing that patio before winter comes is our goal... that way we don't have to re-weed it when spring hits. we also got a new tv stand, pillows, towels, and stuff i haven't even seen yet :) we went to get prices on blinds for our windows... and needless to say, after that sticker shock, we won't be getting blinds for a bit. oy!

the next few weekends are somewhat busy. joe and i have our marriage class on saturday from 9am-5pm and again the following saturday. but sundays are open, and the next two weekends after that i don't have plans. but then comes the holidays... so while i don't have any events, i have A LOT of busy work to do for the wedding, before we start travelling. number one on my agenda is my passport for the honeymoon. i'm getting that settled this week, along with getting the bridesmaid dresses ordered. then it's invitation time... fun fun :)

we surpassed the six month mark... it's all downhill from here! :)

ok, i signed up for it :) demo on monday morning, 6am sharp for bootcamp with FIR :) i'm excited! i told them about my shoulder mishap, and they said that they will show me modifications for any upper body workouts that i might need. so i'll report back on how it goes! i just hope it's above 40 degrees monday morning. BRRRRR.

shoulder is getting better every day. i can now reach up to do my hair, so that made me feel better :) i can sleep with a pillow now, too (too painful before). so i should be back to normal in no time. joe's mom and grandmother got here safely last night, and so far like our place. they have great suggestions on how we can decorate... i can't wait to take them around to show them the fort and the church for the wedding!

ok, off to work, and then off to michigan... be back next week with a full report ;)

well, the pain is subsiding. little by little, my mobility is returning. i can almost turn my head completely to the side, but not fully, and i still can't pull my hands behind my head. which is really irritating when you are used to pulling your hair back all the time. almost annoying enough to make me chop it off! ok, not really, but it's still annoying ;) i wound up not going to the doctor, and i'm still popping aleve's. that combined with rest i think should do the trick. i'm also stretching it a lot.

anyway, joe's mom and grandmother are arriving tonight. joe took tomorrow off to show them around town, and then i'll meet up with them after work. saturday we have our cake tasting (yum!), celebrate joe's birthday, and then i'm off to michigan for laura's shower.

which means since the shoulder incident and my lack of free time... i have not exercised one iota this week, and eating sucked. but next week is a new week :) the last couple of weeks, i've been looking into outdoor "bootcamp" style workouts. they have two that are all female, and the monthly fee is the same as my current gym membership. it's basically just outdoor group training, and the groups are usually less than 30 people. one workout is in the morning, mon-fri from 6am-7am. rain or shine. ouch. the other one is mon, wed, thurs, from 5:15pm-6:15pm. that one is more my style, however, i think it's only open to library of congress employees. doh. i have a demo scheduled for next week... and i'm going to try it, and skip the upper body portions. if i decide to sign up, i know what to ask for my birthday :) WINTER RUNNING GEAR. i own zilch. i need wool socks to prevent hypothermia, tights, lightweight running pants, long sleeve shirts (non-cotton) and a light windbreaker. i do own gloves and ear wraps... but all my other clothes are cotton, which are a HUGE no-no when running outside when it's below 30 degrees.

i need some more motivation, and obviously just getting myself to the gym isn't working. muay thai used to kick my butt, and i loved it... so i'm hoping bootcamp does the same thing. i've polled girls who are enrolled, and they love it. some have even been taking it for over 3 years! i think it's fun just going and knowing your workout will be different every day. we'll see. winter weather scares me, and that's REALLY early. well, considering i would have to wake up at 5am to walk the dog. oy. we'll see.

anyway, off to the wedding weekend extravaganza! :)

after reading about william's back surgery, and poor judah, the dog i petsit for, also going through major back pain... i guess it's my turn. last night joe and i were cleaning out the boxes out of the spare room, to get it ready for his mom and grandmother (who are visiting this thursday through sunday). i picked up a heavy box filled with books, and felt something pull in my shoulder. it didn't hurt right away... but this morning, i reached over to turn off the alarm, and BAM... shoulder and neck were in AGONY. i yelped and woke joe up, and i can't get the pain to go away. i can't turn my head from side to side, and i can't get my arms (mostly my left arm, but my right is limited, too) over my head. *sigh* why this had to happen when i have 8 million things to do, i don't know. serves me right for thinking i could lift the freakin box.

so i spent this morning trying to get the pain to subside. a 20 min shower with the hot water beating on it didn't work, a heating pad didn't work, and multiple ibuprofens have also done zilch. i tried lying down... and that worked slightly, but the minute i tried to get up and move, the pain was worse. i found that if i kept moving, the pain was still there, but not as sharp. :( i'm scared to sleep tonight, for fear of the pain i will be in tomorrow. if it's any worse, i'm going to the doctor for some prescription pain killers/muscle relaxers. this sucks. in the meantime, i have wedding shower favors (for laura) to make, games to print out, packing to do, and an apartment to clean and organize before joe's family gets here the day after tomorrow. *sigh*

so i'm at work for a half day, trying not to let the pain get to me. i drove myself here, but it's going to be interesting on how i get home in rush hour. ugh. maybe i'll just metro home.

so other than back pain, joe's family is coming thursday night. we're excited, and can't wait to show them around town. joe's birthday is saturday, and we have our cake tasting appointment for our wedding cake :) then i'm off to michigan for laura's wedding shower, and to view the necklaces my aunt has made for me and my bridesmaids :) so hopefully i'm in a lot less pain by then, or that will be an interesting trip home.

wish me luck... and any advice on what to do to get this pain to subside is appreciated...

last week, a friend of ours got shot. in the face. he was a bartender at the bar "argonaut" which is the team joe and i played for on our co-ed softball league this summer. he was on the team, and we also saw him regularly at the bar. quike (kee-kay) was a great guy, and now has lost an eye and had part of his brain removed, all due to a robbery gone bad. the voice of the hill newspaper did an article on the incident:

http://www.voiceofthehill.com/BartenderFundraiser.htm

and argonaut is hosting a fundraiser tonight to help raise money for his medical expenses. i'm so sad... i had no idea how bad the damage was until today... i'll be there tonight to give all the support i can...

well, as most of you might have guessed, the cloning failed. miserably. it went for THIRTY HOURS straight... and then gave up. however... the old drive still booted (temporarily)... so i dragged off all the files i needed, and i'm now just doing a clean install on the new drive. i did as weldon suggested (thanks weldon!) and repartitioned the new drive into two 60gb partitions. xp is now installing, and i should be up and running tonight. good thing i saved every install file i ever downloaded :) it will take me a while to get things situated, but i'm done with failing drives. thank god! now i can get back to work on wedding stuff ;)

and thanks dad for helping me figure out my activation issues ;)

what a way to spend a day off... ugh.

ok, it started with the external hard drive. wouldn't connect, had to open the thing to get the files off. spent a whole day just backing files up onto cd's. then a day later... all of a sudden, my original hard drive starts booting slower, and slower... and slower. diskcheck keeps telling me i need to check it... hmmm. my guess, the hard drive has lasted me for 5 years at least, it's very possible it could be failing. so i find a sale on hard drives... seagate is selling a 250gb drive for 89.99. nice! bring it home, only to find out my motherboard won't support drives over 137gb. *sigh* yes, my computer is old. so rather than wait another few days and mess around with a pci controller, i just say screw it, and exchange it for 120gb drive. everything is going ok, i format the drive, and then get "hdclone" (basic edition) and proceed to clone my original hard drive. everything is going ok... i expected a few bad sectors on the orginal. a few. NOT over 100,000. *sigh* but ok, the cloning continues... and it's still going. it's been SEVEN HOURS... and it's still going. when it reaches a bad sector, the cloning is copying it a rate of 1 sector per second. oy. at this rate, i'll be done by the end of october. when it originally started, the "time remaining" showed me it would take 346 days to finish. at least now i'm down to 37 days ;)

so i'm still waiting. good news, i have all the files i need now, backed up. now i just need my computer up and running so i can restore them and actually get to work. it's so frustrating... poor joe :( i thought i had lost all of my photos, then i thought i lost all my program files. now i have both, but i was upset for a bit. still figuring out a good plan of backup at the moment... i also got a new western digital passport drive, so hopefully that helps for a little while.

so still no computer... i'm just thankful i grabbed all the wedding addresses off, as well as the budget and my invitation and other DIY project files. what a pain in the ass THAT would have been.

in happier news, i have a holiday off work tomorrow :) so hopefully i can get this all figured out! joe and i started working on the back patio today, and will probably finish it this upcoming weekend. just in time for his mom and grandmother to visit on the 19th :) should be fun!! i'll post photos when we finish it. we also bought mums (orange and red) for our front steps. they're so pretty... i can't wait to plant flowers out back. lily won't go down the back stairs, so we have a safe haven for gardens, finally :) i'm hoping i can plant some this month, so that we have blooms in the spring. yay, flowers :)

now when my computer is up, i'll be ECSTATIC...

ugh. well, i didn't lose anything, thank god. but warning: don't ever buy an external maxtor hard drive. mine was a 100gb, and all of a sudden it just stopped working. granted... i didn't have an extra outside case to try, so it most likely was the external case, and not the drive itself... but i'm not taking any chances. i pulled the drive out, popped it into my desktop, and pulled all the files off of there. so thankfully, i restored all my photos, mp3's, and wedding files. i ordered a western digital passport... that should work until i'm ready to replace my desktop with a laptop in a year or so :) it arrives today, so i can put back all my mp3's, photos, and documents, and then schedule regular backups so i don't freak out again.

we're still trying to get organized. i found someone to buy my tv stand, and they're coming today to pick it up. that will help with the clutter in the living room. now to tackle the extra room...

i'm happy to say that i've been doing well with diet and exercise this week. i think avoiding the apartment chaos has its advantages :) i've stayed within my point range monday and tuesday, and worked out for an hour last night. tonight is running, and then i go back tomorrow to lift again. time is slipping away, so it's now or never! i'm still trying to find a ww meeting i like. the evening ones, as much as i love the leader, are too hard to make it to, since they start at 6:15, downtown. they have noon meetings, and i might start attempting to go to those during my lunch break, since they're both right on the metro. saturdays are out... i'm gone for too many of them over the next few months, i'll only make it to about half. so we'll see... i definitely need to go back.

this weekend, we're still planning on organizing our place, and possibly starting the back patio project. we have to purchase sand and filler rocks from lowe's... so that might have to wait until the following weekend. i think our budget will be happier :) although my mom may be coming to visit, and i think the last thing she wants to do is rake around sand and haul bricks :) we'll see...

we're getting there... here are the beginning photos i took this weekend of our new place:

i street

forgive the humungous mess... we're still sorting everything out. we now have a functioning washer, and no more ants :) things are coming together, but we still have quite a ways to go before we're finished. still need blinds for all the windows, art for all our wall space, extra bathroom items... the list goes on. good thing it's almost time to begin our wedding registry ;)

but we ate dinner at our kitchen table for the first time tonight. i love it :)
