well, as most of you have heard, former president gerald ford died, and they are broadcasting his funeral service in the capitol rotunda tonight. joe and i are going up to the capitol tomorrow to do a walk through by the casket, and pay our respects. it's interesting living so close... we heard the gunshots outside as they fired before he entered the building. i've never seen a president's casket, and i didn't make it to see president reagan when he was here a year and a half ago, as i lived in arlington. it seems crazy not to go now, when it's within walking distance.
in happier news, i am on our neighborhood listserv, and yesterday received word about a neighbor giving away a free queen size futon frame and mattress. it's really nice, a cherry wood color, and goes beautifully in our spare room. we had thrown around the idea of putting a futon in that room, so i was really happy to hear about finding a free one :) it was only later when i realized who the futon belonged to. if you are from this area, you know of WTOP news and mark segraves. apparently he lives in our neighborhood, and we now own his futon :)
we spent part of today organizing the upstairs (read: i napped while joe put the room together) and then tomorrow i'm planning on cleaning the rest of the apartment. i have a four day weekend again, since tuesday the federal government is closed for ford's mourning. that makes it the fourth week in a row i've only had to work three days out of the week. how i'm going to adjust back to five days i don't know... it's gonna be tough ;) bootcamp starts up again monday. i'm ready to get back full force after this two week break, and really get my butt in shape for this wedding. after od'ing on christmas cookies for two weeks straight, i'm up a healthy 3 more lbs. ugh. that's 20 lbs i've gained since last year :( but 16 weeks from today... i can definitely lose those 20lbs by then. no more holidays stand in my way, and no more big trips or vacations to throw me off track. so look out! i really want to look my best that day.
so wish me luck... no big plans for new year's eve. i'm actually looking forward to spending it with joe and watching movies. he's making his awesome pasta vodka sauce dish (sooooo good) and i'm getting a bottle of champagne to ring in the new year at midnight. after all our travelling the past couple of weeks left us weary of the car, we opted not to drive out to long island this year. we'll miss our friends, but joe's looking forward to seeing them all for the bachelor party :)

phew... we are back. what a great weekend!!! we spent thursday night on the road, and quickly found out that shawn and missy had their baby!! william cornell was born on 3pm on thursday the 22nd... so when we saw him in the hospital up in syracuse the next day, he was just over a day old! so tiny, and SO CUTE :) i got to hold him and then took some photos of the baby and joe holding him:
we are super happy that everything went well with the delivery... no complications and missy was up and about when we saw her :) the family went home saturday morning, and hopefully they are adjusting to home with will :) we can't wait to see him again!
christmas was really fun. it was hard being away from my family for the first time, but it was also fun to be around my new family :) we got a lot of great stuff, including gifts for the wedding (toasting flutes, card making supplies, cake server, etc) i got some really nice clothes, water shoes from my parents, and some beautiful jewelry! i also got to spend some time with joe's brother mike, and meet his girlfriend jenn. they live in phoenix, so i don't get to see them often. we had a great time, and i can't wait to see them at the wedding :)
so we made it back safe and sound early monday. i was sick earlier in the morning, and wound up puking in a gas station bathroom. yuck... and i don't know what caused it. but after a few doses of pepto bismol, i was back in action, and we made it back in time for joe to get to work. now i'm back at the office, and getting things under control.
right now we have no plans for new years... we are still reeling from all the traveling over the past month and a half. i think we'll probably just get together with friends who are still in town, and take it easy. i have a lot of wedding stuff to finish... we are now less than four months away! invitations, programs, cd favors... all of it needs to get done NOW. so after the new year, i'm getting down to business :) we are hoping to make one more trip back up to new york to see baby will again, and then one more trip to michigan for our wedding shower. and that's it! then everyone will be in town for the big day :) i am getting so excited!!! :)

wow, what a weekend! the wedding was SO fun... i uploaded photos yesterday to flickr, and you can see my laura's wedding set here:

i looked a little silly, and really didn't like the job the stylist did with my hair, but oh well, it's not my day to look perfect :)
and laura's stylist was AWESOME... her hair was so, so pretty. the reception was a blast, i think i sat down like twice the whole night. there was a slight snafu in regards to her father-daughter dance, but it was quickly resolved, and i think most people had no idea :)
the rest of the weekend i spent recovering, got to see my friend rachel and her husband jason (they are pregnant with twins!), and then celebrated christmas on sunday with my parents and my sister and conor. all in all, it was very busy, but very fun :) now i'm home for two days, and then it's off to new york for christmas with the nelsons. in the meantime, i'm rushing to get my christmas cards out, and to realize it's almost the four month mark before the wedding! SOOOO much to get done... i really have to get down to work here after the holidays!

and laura's gettin married.... :) three more days to mrs. rea! we leave tomorrow night for michigan, as laura's rehearsal is on thursday, and then the big day begins bright and early friday morning! i'm busy trying to get my house in order and wrapping up xmas presents so that we can celebrate christmas with my family on sunday. then we're back in dc on monday night... only to leave again on thursday night for christmas in new york.
the past weekend we spent christmas shopping for everyone, and we got most of it done. then we saw 'movin out', which is the billy joel/twyla tharp musical. it was pretty good... no dialogue, just all dancing set to billy joel's music, performed by a full band and piano man :) the story could have been better, but the dancing was great! i really enjoyed it.
so that's all that has been going on. bootcamp is still in full effect... this is my seventh week, and i'm making pretty good progress. this week, next week, and the week after i'll only be in town to go 3 days a week instead of 5, so hopefully i'll find a little time over the holidays to get in an extra workout or two. we're getting close to the four month mark to our own wedding... only two more months to the wedding shower! oy! so much to do... it's coming up so fast!!

well, i'm back from michigan! laura's bachelorette party was a blast... i can't remember the last time i danced so much! i even bruised my toe from drunken dancing in heels ;) the one drawback... my cold got much worse, to the point i could barely talk. so trying to drink with a sore throat and talking to people in a loud bar was not easy. but i managed, and wound up with no voice the next morning. it's slowly coming back, but i'm still quite raspy. it was worth it though :) i flew back last night, and joe and i spent the evening listening to christmas music and putting up our tree. i finished the decorations and it looks so pretty! i love christmas trees. i took a photo, so i'll post those sometime this week.
this weekend i'm attempting to kick this cold, and joe and i have tickets to see "movin' out" at the national theater. we're excited, and we are also finishing up our christmas shopping. next weekend we are driving to michigan on wed night for laura's wedding... we'll be in michigan from thurs-mon! we are celebrating christmas with my family that weekend, so this is our last chance to get everyone covered :) so my last full week of work, then i have a 3 day work week, followed by another three day work week, followed by another 3 day work week :) fun stuff! hopefully i still manage to get all my work done, but man i'm looking forward to all that vacation time.
