My animals are a huge part of my life. I rescued Bailey from the Lansing Humane Society in December of 2000, when he reached out his paw and "picked" me as I walked by his cage :) Then a year later I adopted Poof (only her name then was "Mia") :) I knew once I was ready with a big yard and a lot of time on my hands I would get a dog, and yellow labs have always been my favorite dog. So on Easter morning in 2004, along came Lily, all the way from Massachusetts and Ann Kent (of Ocean Breeze Labradors). Yep, she's a purebred, but I could care less what her pedigree is. She's my baby bean, and she means the world to me. The cats took a few weeks to warm up to her, but now I catch all three of them snuggled together and playing together when they're bored :)

So here we all, one big happy family. Luckily Joe is as much of an animal lover as I am, although he favors the dog... but I really couldn't have found another person who puts up with them and loves them as much as I do :)

Through my animals, I have also learned to love volunteer work, and learned the ins and outs of the local Arlington County government. I found Bailey and Poof while volunteering at the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing, and then while I had Lily, I fostered rescued Labs through the Lab Rescue for the DC Metro area. When I moved in with Joe, our DC apartment left no more room for fosters, so instead, I stayed active with the Dog Park near my old apartment, Towers Park, where Lily used to run twice a day. I also became and still remain a board member with the group ArlingtonDogs, and I still try to educate people and groups in DC about dog rules, behavior, and give them advice on where to find answers about dogs in the city.
