week 12 and telling the family
Woohoo! I'm 11 weeks today, and we've told *almost* everyone about the baby. We're seeing Aunt Signe tomorrow, and then telling the rest of our friends who still don't know. But once family knows, I'll post it on my main blog, and I'm sure word will start getting around :)
I'm still feeling great, and it was really fun back in NY telling Joe's family. We waited until we got there on Thursday, and everyone was home for dinner. Joe's grandmother commented that my skin looked "rosy" before we even said anything, which made me laugh. And then when Joe said we had news, she shouted "I knew it! You're expecting!" and we all had a good laugh. Lots of hugs and excitedness, and then the rest of the weekend we discussed names and nursery ideas :)
We got home on Wednesday afternoon, and then got a call from Joe's mom saying her neighbor has the shingles (the same neighbor we hung out with over the weekend). They were really worried that it meant they exposed me, and that I was at risk of having the baby being born with a birth defect. I was sure it was fine, and called the doctor just to make sure. Sure enough, since I had the chicken pox when I was younger, I can't catch shingles from someone else. Had I NOT had chicken pox, I could have caught it, and then the baby would be at risk, but my doctor isn't worried at all, so neither am I :)
Baby is growing, and I managed to gain some more weight over the weekend. I'm up to 4.5 lbs total as of this morning. Not ideal, and not the 2 lbs I was hoping to maintain for the next two weeks, but I guess it's not terrible. My work pants still fit, and the maternity jeans are the most comfortable pants I own :) I'm no longer craving cheese like mad, and I'm back to feeling normal, and don't have any pregnancy symptoms anymore. That's not a complaint, believe me! :) Here is what is going on with baby this week:
So baby is hiccuping, but yeah, I don't feel a thing :) Next week (at the 12 week mark) I'll post an updated belly shot, even though I don't feel like I've changed at all. We have our next appointment on Wednesday morning (they bumped it from Monday)... and we get to hear the heartbeat! Then the following Monday is our 1st trimester screening ultrasound where Joe will get to see the baby for the first time :) We can't wait!!

"Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden.
She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming."
