and he's ok

So we get to the doctor yesterday, and wouldn't you know, Ben had ZERO "spots" on him. Not only that, but he didn't show a sniffle or a cough, and he was smiling at the doctor. I think she thought I was crazy. She did say she didn't think it was a reaction to the antibiotics, so that's good news. I really think he is teething, which wasn't helping matters... so for now the plan is to just keep an eye on him, and watch for any other weirdness.

This morning he woke up great, and drop off at daycare went smoothly (no tears!) so here's hoping we really have turned a corner and put the worst behind us.

Is it spring yet???

tired of the sickness

We've had quite enough of sickness around here, but every time I think the end is in sight, something happens.

About two and a half weeks ago, Ben was suffering from a nasty cough (coughing so hard he puked), fever, and a constant runny nose. After two days, his fever subsided, so we thought he was ready to go back to daycare... only to find out that his fever had returned with a vengence, and he was MISERABLE at daycare. So we kept him home again, and after taking him to the doctor, we found out his lungs and ears were clear, but he definitely had RSV (respiratory infection virus). So we get a huge snowstorm over the weekend (and Joe and I catch his cold), and by Sunday he seems much better (Joe and I however are NOT feeling as great). But then on Monday he starts to go back downhill, and when we take him back in to the doctor on Tuesday, he now has a double ear infection (side effect from the RSV). So we get a prescription for antibiotics, get another huge snowstorm, and by Friday he's looking better again. My mom comes to visit for the weekend, and all of a sudden on Saturday night, he gets a fever. Again. By Sunday, it's now spiking at 104.5, but it's responding to Motrin, and he doesn't have any other symptoms. I'm still worried, and call the doctor, but by Monday his fever is gone, so Tuesday he returned to daycare.

Of course his first day was awful... I knew it would be after spending almost two weeks at home. So I chalked it up to just needing to readust to daycare again. But Tuesday night I noticed a few spots while giving him his bath... but since they were only a handful (like less than 15), I decided to try a "wait and see" approach. Well, Wednesday goes even worse at daycare, he cries for most of the day, and the daycare staff let me know that his "spots" seem worse. Sure enough, I get him home and there are now about double the amount. So I call the doctor and they tell me it could hives, an allergic reaction to his antibiotic, so I need to give him Benadryl and bring him back into the doctor so they can verify.

That brings us to today. I've taken almost two weeks off of work now, but thankfully the snow days gave me a week free. I feel terrible for Ben... he's obviously got something going on if he's breaking out in hives with random fevers and crying all day. I don't know if it's his antibiotic, his ears still infected, or if this is all still the RSV... but either way he's still miserable and I feel awful for having dumped him in daycare for the past two days. At least today he can relax again at home, and we can solve this crazy riddle about what is going on. I'm really hoping the hives are from the RSV, because if he IS allergic to his antibiotics, we'd have to put down pencillin as an allergy and pray that he eventually outgrows it :(

So wish us luck this afternoon at the doctor and that I can keep my sanity for poor Ben's sake! We are so worried about him!

dancing machine

Ben started dancing whenever we play the music on his toolbox toy, so I had to get that on video today :) He's wearing his Super Bowl outfit, and please ignore mom's sniffles and his runny nose... we're all recovering over here!

He also decided Lily's crate looked interesting, and decided to check it out :) Definitely in the curiosity stage!

He looks WAY better today than he has all week. He got diagnosed with RSV after having a violent cough (coughing so hard he pukes) and a fever for 4 days... and it wasn't until this morning that he was finally fever-free. However, he keeps waking up tonight, and I have a feeling his ears may be infected. Again. The doctor told us to watch out for it after the RSV clears, especially because he's so prone to them... and my gut says tonight after watching him toss and turn and cry that they are definitely under suspicion. It's tough because we are still snowed in here, so I'm hoping that they will give us a prescription for antibiotics without trekking all the way down to the office... but if not, we'll have to find a way down there. Poor guy. I'll be so glad when this winter season is over! Joe and I both caught Ben's cold... Joe worse than me. I never got a fever, but Joe has it full blown, complete with chills and all over body aching. I'm hacking up a lung, but I'm starting to feel better, and I think one more day at home will be ok. Here's hoping Ben's ears are NOT infected, and that he's good as gold tomorrow!

walking with the wagon

We knew Ben was getting really good at walking while holding our hands, and at pulling up, so we decided to try him behind his wagon. He loved it!! Won't be long now! :)
