It's been a very busy few weeks here at the Nelson household. We travelled for Memorial Day, then I went to Michigan, Ben got sick (and didn't get to meet everyone while I was in Michigan), and then we had to get the house ready for all our visitors this past weekend, for Ben's baptism. Joe's parents came in Thursday night, then my parents came in Friday morning, friends came in Friday night (Joe's friend Bob was the godfather), and then my sister (the godmother) arrived Saturday morning. We wound up with GREAT weather for Sunday, and I think the party went really well. It's the first one we threw at our house, and it's always a learning curve to see what works and what doesn't. The baptism itself was fine... Ben was his usual casual self. During the part where they pour water on his head, he just casually laid there like nothing was going on, and the congregation (and the priest) laughed :) He was such a good baby all weekend, and despite his lingering cold smiled and laughed for anyone that held him. We seriously couldn't have been more proud!
I myself don't have a ton of photos from the day, since I was busy running around or participating in the ceremony. I assigned video duty to my dad for the ceremony, so we have good footage of that (which I'll post at some point this week), and I'll collect photos from my parents and my friends along the way and post them as I get them. Thanks to our friends and family for helping get the house ready for the party... we could not have finished it all without you!
Today also marks Ben's sixth month birthday! Time is FLYING by... I can't believe he's half a year old already. I know the next few months he's going to grow by leaps and bounds... with crawling, standing, and even maybe some walking! We started him on solids (rice cereal) last week, and it went well! He didn't spit it all out, and kind of chewed it a bit. But it was still a challenge to get him to actually eat it and not just let it all fall out with his mouth hanging open. And then smear it with his hand, pour it down his front, and wipe it in his hair :) I tasted the cereal and BLAH... no wonder he wasn't excited about it! So now that I know he can handle the texture, I think I will move on to something that tastes better, so that he accepts it a little more willingly :) As for movement, He's still rolling from back to stomach, but still won't roll from stomach to back. I have a feeling it won't ever happen, and that most likely he'll just go straight into crawling. He is getting a lot better at pushing himself up off the floor with his arms, and he can pump his legs and his butt to scoot forward on the floor. So he's getting there! He also babbles a ton, and loves the "da-da-da-da-da" sounds, although often it comes out as "tha-tha-tha-tha". I love when he squeals, and just kinda talks to himself in the morning. He will turn his head when you call his name, but I'm not sure he recognizes that yet (I think he's just turning to noises in general).
We have his 6-month checkup on Wednesday, so I can update then with his current weight/height. He also has outgrown his infant carseat, so this weekend might be a trek to find his new convertible carseat. We most likely will go with the Britax Marathon, despite it's expensive cost. It is one of the few that have higher weight/height limits, and we really need that with how fast Ben grows.
So hopefully I'll be able to add more photos in the next few days, and a video or two! :) Our next trip is to Michigan for our annual 4th of July family reunion, and you can be sure there will be lots of photos then!
