happy halloween

I'm 33 weeks today, and Happy Halloween! This time next year I'll have a 10 month old :) Crazy! We're getting closer... and tomorrow I'll officially be able to say that baby will arrive next month! Here's what is going on with baby this week:

"Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she's born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies."

Baby has been SUPER active lately. So much so, that I was in a work meeting, and my coworker could see it from across the table. It's nuts. I don't know what he's doing in there, but whoa!

I'm having a tougher time bending over now, and everything hurts and aches when I wake up in the morning. I'm so stiff, I have to spend a few minutes just stretching my hands, feet, legs, etc... waiting for them to loosen up. I know I'll be sleep deprived when baby gets here, but at least when I DO sleep, I can sleep comfortably again. There is just NO comfortable spot when you have a giant, heavy stomach putting pressure everywhere. As for my other complaints, I'm surprised that the heartburn has subsided. I get it maybe once a week, but nothing really annoying. I'm sure it will return with a vengeance at some point, but for now it's not really bothering me. Just my feet, hands, and if I stand for too long, my back aches. Typical pregnancy stuff!

Tonight we are going to a friends house for a Halloween party, and I'm going as a "hockey mom" to mock Sarah Palin. I'm sporting my MSU hockey jersey, so that will be a fun time! I won't give away Joe's costume yet, since he wants it to be a surprise at the party... but we're both looking forward to it :)

maternity ward tour

Well, we had our maternity ward tour last night, and it was great to see the facilities! They are REALLY nice on the inside. Each room has a flat screen TV with cable, free wireless internet, and around the corner is a little kitchen area with water, juice, and coffee, where you can store stuff if you want (she even said we can bring our own popsicles for the freezer if we think that would help during labor) :) We labor in one room (click here for a virtual tour) and then when it's time to deliver, the front part of the bed comes off, and we deliver in the same room. The bed even has an attachable bar, in case we want to squat on the bed, as it tends to be a much easier position to deliver in (gravity apparently helps a ton). Unless of course you have an epidural and are bed ridden :) If you need a c-section, they wheel you into the surgical room, and she explained their procedures for that. After baby is born, we recover for about 2 hours in that room, and then we are wheeled up to the next floor, where we each get a private room (yay, no sharing with a neighbor!) for two nights. Private rooms are not extra... they have no "double" rooms in their facility :) Those rooms also have cable tv's and wireless internet, and a little chair that pulls out for a bed for your husband. Now, the sad part is, there is no way Joe can fit on that little chair/bed. It stops at like his thighs. The nurse did say that there are 4 rooms that have two full beds (specifically for husbands, not other women with babies)... but that they are "luck of the draw" in getting them. So here's hoping we have that luck out, otherwise, Joe said he'll sleep on the tile floor. Which I know is impossible, but he refuses to go home and leave us for the night. My bed is too narrow to fit us both, so we'll have to get creative and figure something out!

Overall, the facilities are great, and look brand new. I feel totally confident that we'll have a great stay, and hopefully poor Joe won't have to suffer trying to find a place to sleep :) We timed it and it took about 15 minutes to get from our house to the hospital (with no traffic), so I think we're in good shape, as long as I don't go into labor at 5pm rush hour traffic! Even then, it's still not far from our house, so I think we'll be fine. My plan if I go into labor while at work is to start carrying around $50 in cash with me after I hit 37 weeks, so I can taxi home and call Joe on the way. That way he can leave work, and meet me at home, and we can drive to the hospital together. Let's hope this baby picks a Saturday or Friday night to appear! :)

doctor update

Had my 32 week checkup today, and all is well :) Baby's heartbeat is a strong 162 bpm, and my blood pressure/weight/etc are all still fine. I brought up my hand and feet swelling, as well as the joint pain I have, and I was right, it's normal. It won't go away until baby comes unfortunately, so it's just something to deal with for the next 7 weeks. My next appointment is in two weeks, and it's the same day as my ultrasound :) The doctor said I will find out if my placenta has moved out of the way, and they will also take measurements on baby, to find out how he's growing in there. I'm really curious to see if he will take after his dad, or if he'll be a nice compromise between Joe's 10lbs and my 6lbs :) I'll take 7-8lbs over 10 ANY day :)

So nothing exciting (which is typical)... I'm still hoping to get some painting done this weekend but we'll see. Joe wants to wait for his mom to visit, but I want to get started so that we're not leaving things for the last minute. If I can get the paint, I can just get started, and then hopefully have it finished, so our moms can help (if they want) with the fun decorations on the wall :)

Anyway, no other updates... just looking forward to the ultrasound and getting things stocked up around the house! We have our maternity ward tour tomorrow night at the hospital, so that should be fun, and make it more real. Joe is taking a half day off of work to come with me, so yay for not having to go alone :) 52 days left!

32 weeks

32 weeks today... I'm 1/3 of the way through my 3rd trimester, and only 8 weeks to go! I have my next doctor appointment on Tuesday, and I'm going to mention all the pain/stiffness/swelling in my hands. It's the worst in the morning, when it hurts to bend my fingers, but periodically throughout the day they still swell. Here's what is going on with baby this week:

"This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance.) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood."

We also have our last Bradley birth class this weekend, and our hospital tour on Wed night. I just lined up petsitting for Lily, so things are getting checked off the list! I have a few lists lined up... one for everything that I think I will need for the hospital, for baby's first week at home, and for things I need to get done before I go into labor. They're dwindling down, and I want to have it all done by the time I reach 36 weeks, just in case something happens where I go early. At the very least, I'd like to have the carseat installed, and my hospital bag packed by then, so at least I won't be totally unprepared. So that's 4 weeks from now... I think it's doable! I have some free time again on Saturday and Sunday, and I plan on getting the paint for the dresser and the table... or at least an estimate on how much paint we need and how much it will cost. It is supposed to rain on Saturday so I will probably save the actual painting for next weekend, since it will need to be done with all the windows open. Good thing I still feel like an overheated furnace, so I know I won't freeze to death :) It's not that cold here yet anyway... we are still getting 50-60 degree weather and probably will until well into November. My first year out here, we had 70 degree weather around Thanksgiving... a good perk to living a little farther south than where I grew up in Michigan :)

All in all, things are becoming more uncomfortable but I still feel pretty good. Sleeping is still tough, as is finding a comfortable position on the couch. I can't lay flat, or I have trouble breathing from all the pressure, so it's funny to see how many pillows I can stuff around me :) As easy as this pregnancy has been, I can't wait until I have my body back! But then I'm not quite ready for this kid to get here, so I can hold off for a few more weeks ;) It's getting so close!!

going natural

I've been asked a few times about why I decided to try and go the natural/med-free route with labor. I know I have NO idea how much pain I'm going to be in, or how I will react, but going in to this, I wanted to be as prepared as possible. Turns out the hospital classes were pretty short (1 six-hour class), and talked a lot about procedures, and it actually was the natural method classes (12 2-hour classes) that really got into the details about labor and delivery, and what to expect during all the phases. So I didn't start out with the attitude that med-free was best, but I was interested in how people on both sides felt. Since the natural method classes offered the most detail, I stuck with that :) The thing I enjoyed most about the classes we took is that the instructor was not super biased. She gave us information on all the medications they would offer, as well as gave scenarios and examples of when a c-section is necessary, and when you can ask for other options. So even though her focus was on how to get through labor without any medication, she made sure we were well informed in case we decided (or were forced) to go that route. So I feel prepared on both fronts.

As we got through the class, and I listened to other friends and family who have been through labor, I realized that I do want to try and go med-free. Why? One reason, I've read that unmedicated birth babies tend to breastfeed easier. Recovery is often faster (no waiting for meds to wear off to walk around or hold your baby). The meds do get passed to the baby, so there are risks associated with it, albeit small. If you've seen "The Business of Being Born", you are aware that there can also be a "domino" effect with meds... where you check into the hospital, and immediately you are on a time schedule. If you don't progress in a certain amount of time, they give you Pitocin to help you along. The Pitocin-caused contractions are much more intense than normal contractions, and therefore ladies tend to ask for epidurals to deal with the pain. As a result, sometimes epidurals can actually slow down labor (not always, but it does happen), and then they have to increase the Pitocin to get it going again, and you get stronger contractions, and ask for even stronger epidurals. This domino effect can lead to an ultimate c-section. It's not always the case, but the movie was interesting and gives you a different perspective on hospital procedures.

This site (www.americanpregnancy.org) also gave some great disadvantages to the epidural, and I've heard of the headaches, shaking, numbness, and sometimes not even working fully from friends and family more often than not. So I figured even if I DID decide to get an epidural, and it didn't work, I would still be prepared with methods to cope with the pain and not be panicked that my "plan" didn't come through.

So overall, this is what I think will be best for me and baby... and if I wind up having a c-section due to things beyond my control, I won't be upset. I will at least know I tried and did everything I thought was right :) Hope that helps clear it up! I'm not trying to be a "hero" or ignore that pain meds do help some women... nor do I think that women who use them are "weak" or wrong in some way. It's just my decision, and what I plan to do :)

more photos

It's been over a month since I took some belly photos, so here I am at 31 weeks, 3 days :)

Yes, I need new shirts!! :)

Still have 8 more weeks to grow, if you can believe it! I also took photos of the baby's room, and the progress that I made this weekend. I'm not sure the Peter Rabbit hanging will stay there, but I like it for now :) We have little tumbling Peter Rabbit "wallies" that stick on the wall, and I think once we figure out the best way to decorate with them, it will add a lot more to the bare white walls:

The bunny lamp from Joe's grandmother

The stuff in front of the futon will be going downstairs (like the carseat, the jumperoo, and the activity mat, etc). So all that will be cleared out, as well as the stuff on the table (as soon as I figure out where they will go) and the swing in front of the bookshelf. I think the rocking chair might also come downstairs, but I can't quite find the right spot just yet. I'm sure we'll figure it out soon! Definitely looks better than last weekend though :)

31 weeks

Well, we're now in to the single digit weeks... only 9 more to go before baby arrives! I've had some fun symptoms creep up on me this week, namely some swelling in my feet and hands. On Monday night, I had spent most of the day cleaning the house (I had the holiday off for Columbus Day), and by 9pm, my feet were so swollen they ached. Joe put some ice on my ankles for me, and I propped them up, but it sucked. My hands have also been giving me trouble. They feel really tight and ache, just as if I was outside and my hands get too cold. They don't look that swollen, but they feel really big and it aches to make a fist. I'm not sure if that's carpal tunnel or not (my wrists don't hurt at all)... but I hear it goes away after the baby is here. Fun pregnancy stuff :) Thank god it finally cooled off today though.. it's been in the 80's and high humidity for the past couple of days, and I finally broke down and turned on the air conditioning so I wasn't dripping with sweat. But we can turn it off again, now that fall is really here :) SOOOO much more comfortable!! I've been a furnace lately, so I am really loving the brisk chill in the air! Here's what is going on with baby this week:

"By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she'll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb. She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth."

My shirts are becoming borderline again, which means next weekend might be a trip to Motherhood Maternity, to pick up some longer work shirts. I just barely fit into my top today, and I keep having to yank it down to cover my camisole (looks like I have a slip showing). Joe commented that maybe I won't get much bigger, since my stomach is so big already... but I just laughed and said I still have two more months to grow A LOT... I think he's in for a surprise at just HOW big you are at the very end.

We also moved everything upstairs into the baby's room. We don't have any decorations on the wall yet, and still need to paint the table and dresser, but here are a few shots of everything crammed in there. I'll take more as we get things unpacked and organized... but you can see we have a ways to go before it's finished:

peter rabbit posters Joe bought, along with the frames he got at 40% off at Michael's

huge baby tub, with our bath toys ready to go

my countdown that I update every day :)

So yeah, we still have a lot of stuff on the walls that we need to take down and find new homes for, as well as clearing out a lot of things (like a big coast guard ship) that just doesn't belong. The TV is staying, because I think it would be nice to have something to watch if I'm constantly in the room, feeding baby :) I'm also loving that we have a futon in there, and I have a feeling I'll be "resting" there while baby naps during those first few weeks.

Anyway, nothing big going on this week. I'm getting my flu shot (as suggested by my doctor) on Monday, and probably making a trip or two out to Babies R Us to stock up on supplies. Other than that, it just working on that room upstairs, since we're getting closer and closer!

appointment

Well, I had my doctor's appointment today, and it was the basic weight, blood pressure, urine check :) Nothing exciting, and everything still looks good! Baby's heartbeat was a solid 142 bpm :) I did ask about the weird pulling sensation I've been feeling lately. It feels like baby is super low when he moves, and if I stand up too fast, I get a pulling/cramping sensation. I have to ease into an upright position (same with getting out of the car or bed). The doctor said it was completely normal, especially since I'm short, there's not much room for baby to go with a shorter torso. So that's where all that pressure is coming from... feels like I'm holding a bowling ball on my bladder. She then gave me a prescription for my 34 week ultrasound, to follow up on my low-lying placenta issue they found at 18 weeks. So on November 11 (Veteran's Day), we get to see baby again, and find out if the placenta moved up. I'm just happy we get to see the little guy one last time before his arrival :)

We're working hard on getting the nursery finished. It's really tough finding places for all the items we had stored in that room. Our apartment is big, but lacking in the storage areas. So as we set things up, we have to find a new home for the other items in there. It's taking me longer than I thought, but we're getting there! Joe assembled the swing and we just got the crib sheets and other decorations yesterday. He also went out to Michael's craft store since they had a sale on their frames, and he got them for the Peter Rabbit posters he ordered. Once we get those on the wall, and the crib set up, I think it will look a lot more like a nursery :) I really want to get the table and dresser painted, so that things match better, but we'll get it done eventually. Especially with two crafty grandmas visiting soon (my mom and Joe's mom) :) I'll take photos this weekend of our progress, but so far, there isn't much to show other than piles of boxes and random stuff lying everywhere. Little by little, we're getting there!! Only 66 days left to go!

maternity photos

A good friend of mine, Rachel, has started trying to hone her photography skills, and asked if I'd mind if she took some "maternity" photos of me when I came into town for the baby shower. I thought it would be fun, so I met up with her on Saturday night at the Ann Arbor Botanical Gardens, and we had fun trying to think up different poses. These are a few of my favorites so far... she's really talented, and I'm lucky to have such fun photos. I'm 29 weeks pregnant here:

These are her photos though, so she owns the copyright. Please don't reproduce without her permission!

30 weeks

30 weeks

30 down, 10 to go! I'm officially 3/4 of the way done... I can't believe how fast time is going by! Everyone said 3rd trimester would go by slowly... maybe once I get within a month, it will slow down. Maybe :) Here's what is going on with baby this week:

"This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy."

They can say that again! Baby is moving like crazy... I swear you can see elbows coming through my stomach! It's fun though, and comforting to know he's alive and well in there :) My next doctor's appointment is on Tuesday, and we are now going every two weeks for an update. At 34 weeks, I get another ultrasound, to check if my placenta has moved out of the way (which in 90% of the cases they do). If it hasn't, it means a c-section is inevitable. Which is not the end of the world, but it's not my ideal way to go. That's what I love about our Bradley birth classes though... we heard all about both the "all natural" and what would warrant a c-section, and all the procedures that go along with it. So I feel doubly prepared, and won't feel terrible if things don't go as planned.

I also posted photos of our baby shower :) Here's a few of the decorations that my mom spent a lot of time on:

My mom (with help from friends) sewed little pj's with a flap in the back, where she stuck two hershey's kisses, and placed them at each setting. She also made little booties with a thank you message, stood up on cardstock, filled with blue and white m&m's, and also had little baseball helmets next to each. "Baby Boy" mints and candies were sprinkled around, and each table also had a small cake in the shape of a baseball that went to the person at the table with a birthday closest to my due date :)

Cakes made by my aunt Gerry, that said "Welcome Baby Nelson" :)

The room being setup

Little baseball hat cakes (made by my aunt Gerry) that sat at the head table for Joe and I (which he luckily didn't have to participate in) :)

Blurry photo of my sister Danielle and I

And our house after we got home and unpacked the car. We have a lot of work to do before this baby gets here!

So this weekend will spend a lot of time organizing and putting stuff away. We had to order the crib bedding and nursery decorations this week, so those won't be up for another week or so, while we wait for them to get here. Joe surprised me and ordered a bunch of Peter Rabbit wall hangings, so I can't wait for those to arrive! Joe's mom is coming to visit the first weekend in November, and then my mom is coming sometime around my birthday. So I know we'll eventually get it all done :) Since we're not travelling anymore, our weekends are now dedicated to cleaning and baby organization :)

One last thing I wanted to mention is that there has been some "discussion" about what I'm eating lately, mostly because people were curious as to what foods I was staying away from. A coworker didn't want me to have a donut, but sad to say, those are one of the things I'm NOT giving up! ;) I thought it would be fun to write it down, so that 30 years from now when they have more guidelines for pregnant women, I can look back at the funny stuff they warned us about :) What I have stayed away from throughout this pregnancy is any sort of caffeine (I haven't had coffee in 30 weeks!!) as well as any soda. I've had a few sprites, root beers (even though Barq's root beer does have some caffeine), and caffeine free stuff, but I'd say I had less than 10 for the entire time I've been pregnant. I drink mostly water, and occasionally will throw some juice in there (but try to keep to natural juice, and not ones with high fructose corn syrup in them). I know I'm allowed to have a little caffeine each day (up to 300mg), but I didn't want to stress about if I had a "large" vs. a "strong" small coffee each day, and it's much easier just to swear off it all together. I also gave up all deli meat (fear of listeria, a form of food poisoning), raw food (no sushi), artificial sugars (no splenda, aspartame, or acesulfame potassium, because of the lack of information or studies on pregnant women), and recently gave up peanuts and peanut butter for the last trimester, and will continue as I breastfeed. The artificial sugars was a tough one, since a lot of my "light" foods contained those, especially flavored waters like Crystal Light. I've been trying to stay with mostly organic foods (milk, veggies, fruit). But other than that, I still eat chocolate, cheeses, etc... and I still occasionally eat fast food like Burger King and Taco Bell. Overall, I think my skin thanks me for all the water, and I while I do miss my morning coffee, I really don't miss soda at all. I didn't realize how much I depended on it to get me through the afternoons. So I'm going to try to keep that up permanently, and see how far I get :)

All in all, I still feel great. Nights are tough, I'm up about 2-3 times per night and each time I try to maneuver out of bed, it's a big ordeal. But I still manage to be mostly awake throughout the day :) I had to give up my heels at work, since my feet were killing me. I wear tennis shoes to and from the metro, but now I wear them the rest of the day, too :) Luckily work is relaxed enough that they don't mind. I've also been feeling much more warm, and have random hot flashes throughout the day. I used to be cold all the time, but now even just going up the stairs sends me pouring in sweat. Sexy, I know ;) My legs have also been really sore, and I feel like I've been riding a horse all day.

It only gets better, with 70 more days still to go! :)

back from the shower

Well, we made it back from Michigan and the baby shower :) It was so great to see so many people, and I am really grateful for all the gifts we got! We made it back with a ton of baby clothes, as well as some really thoughtful gifts that were not on our registry. I'll post photos sometime in the next few days of all the items, plus all the decorations! My mom and my aunts (her sisters) really went all out, and with 70 people there, it was a tough job! We got almost everything we needed, but for what we didn't get, people provided with gift cards, so I'm sure we'll be able to stock up the nursery with no problem :) We still need lots of diapers and wipes, crib sheets and a crib skirt, bottle nipples (and a few more bottles), milk storage bags, a highchair, and nursery wall decorations. After that, I really think we're set! We got the pack and play we need for the first few weeks for baby to sleep in our room, so as long as we get the other supplies, baby should be a-ok for a while.

As for the clothes, Joe was so excited about them that he took a few hours last night sorting them all into sizes, taking off all the tags, and even started washing them, while I started on the shower thank-you notes. I laughed and said how much I appreciated it, but I don't think I've ever heard any other husbands being that into all the clothes ;) But I'm definitely not complaining! I think it seems more real to him as he sorted through all the little shirts and onesies, as he went into high gear talking about getting the nursery done ASAP, and wanting to just get everything ready, like now :) Which is fine by me, but it will take a little compromise to both get what we want out of the nursery room. I forget that he has his own ideas of how it should look, so I have to work with him to make sure we are both happy with the final result. Case in point, he wants to clear all the bookshelves of books, to give room for baby toys and books. I think we can clear ONE shelf, and leave the rest there, mostly because I don't think we have any other place to put the books we remove. He's convinced we can shove them in the closet somewhere... which to me means we probably can just get rid of the books all together if we are just storing them in a box in a closet. But getting Joe to throw things out is like pulling teeth... and it's all still up for negotiation ;)

So while we figure that out, my parents are making plans to come visit one last time before baby, and hopefully it will be sometime around my birthday. Joe's mom is also making plans to come for one last visit, and she is thinking the first weekend in November. So we only have a few weeks to get the house in order, and then by the time their visits are over, baby will almost be due! So time is creeping up on me, and I'm ready to get things moving! I'm almost 3/4 of the way done with this pregnancy... even more so if he decides to make an early arrival! It's so exciting! :)

mother's room

I'm so happy... I just met a coworker who returned from maternity leave, and she informed me that we have a "Mother's Room" here at work, with a nice chair, radio, and even a fridge to store your bottles in, all for nursing moms who need to pump at work! I thought I was going to have to pump in the restroom, so this was an awesome surprise! She also was a wealth of knowledge about other things, and I'm going up to get a pediatrician referral list from her later today. I'm so happy, I almost cried. What a great Friday! :)

29 weeks

29 weeks

Well, we're off to Michigan tonight to attend our baby shower this weekend that my mom is throwing on Sunday. We're doing our typical drive for 5 hours on Friday night, stay over in Pennsylvania, and then drive the rest of the way on Saturday morning. That way we are rested and still have most of the day left to visit :) Then we turn right back around and drive back to DC on Monday, but that's the last of our travels before baby arrives!

I'm still feeling fine... I feel huge, and just know the worst is yet to come, but overall my heartburn is subsiding (I only get it about once or twice a week now), and my backaches only ache when I haven't been on one of my daily walks. Sleep is becoming harder, though. I'm up at least twice in the middle of the night to either pee or roll over. I never thought just rolling to my other side could be so difficult, but it's a huge challenge swinging my stomach over. This thing is getting so heavy! :) Shirts are quickly becoming too small... the oversized tshirts I used to swim in now barely cover the underside of my stomach. So in another week or two I might have to go out and find a few more maternity shirts that are long enough. I wore one of Joe's shirts the other day, but he laughed and said it just made me look like I had draped a sheet on :)

Anyway, here's what is going on with baby this week:

"Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and he weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds him, but that volume will decrease as he gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. His eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after he's born, he'll keep his eyes closed for a good part of the day. When he does open them, he'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means he can only make out objects a few inches from his face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)"

We've been slowly getting gifts from friends and family in the mail, and it's been fun adding them to the nursery :) Joe's grandmother generously sent us money to buy the stroller we have been dying for, so I'm really grateful, and can't wait to get it so I can start practicing walking Lily with it. There's no way I'm going to have her first time be while the baby is IN the stroller... I want to make sure she isn't going to dart and pull the thing over first :) It's the Baby Jogger City Elite:

We tried it out in the store, and the adjustable handlebars were perfect for Joe, and it's super light to carry. It even has a carseat adapter, so that we can use it from day one :)

So I'm sure I'll have lots of other fun gifts to post about after our shower, and I need to start working on our nursery, now that we only have 11 weeks left! :)

rhogam shot

Well, good news is, I passed my GD test with flying colors, which means I don't have gestational diabetes :) They did say I was slightly anemic though, so now I have to take a daily iron supplement. No big deal, but it did surprise me, since I haven't had many symptoms of low iron. I have been feeling a *little* more tired lately, but I chocked it up to being in my 3rd trimester :) We'll see if the supplements help.

I got my Rhogam shot this morning, for being RH negative. Piece of cake, I think it was the easiest shot I've ever had. Way less painful than the needle prick they did to draw blood on Monday :)

In other news, Joe and I were discussing baby names again last night, and he's been a fan of Benjamin lately. I like it, and then it dawned on me that Peter Rabbit's cousin is Benjamin Bunny :) I think it's a sign ;) Next week I'll start ordering nursery decorations... we need to get it finished soon, as we only have 79 days left!! And even less if he's early!

28 weeks 6 days

Edited: Just wanted to add that I figured out how I could be "slightly anemic"... apparently milk and fiber can block iron absorption. I've been taking my prenatals with Fiber One cereal and milk every morning :) That would do it! Gotta figure something else out. Trouble is, I can't take the prenatals on an empty stomach, and morning is the only time I consistently remember. I'll try for remembering during lunch...
